  1. 1. Signal transduction in macrophages. Intracellular pathways activated by microbial constituents

    Författare :Sandra Olsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; TNF; TLR; dectin-1; lipid rafts; Src; Btk; Macrophages; arachidonate;

    Sammanfattning : Macrophages play an essential role in the defense against infection by phagocytosis and by production of inflammatory mediators. Such mediators are TNF? and eicosanoids. Many microbial agents elicit arachidonate release in macrophages that lead to the formation of eicosanoids. LÄS MER

    Författare :Sandra Hellberg; Jan Ernerudh; Maria Jenmalm; Magnus Vrethem; Jan Brynhildsen; Tomas Olsson; Manuel Friese; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by a dysregulated immune system leading to chronic inflammation in the central nervous system. Despite increasing number of treatments, many patients continue to deteriorate. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Impact of disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with head and neck cancer : experiences from a multicenter study

    Författare :Sandra Ottosson; Göran Laurell; Cecilia Olsson; Björn Zackrisson; Elisabeth Kjellén; Antti Mäkitie; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head and neck cancer; weight loss; body mass index; tube feeding; radiation therapy; survival; treated volume; swallowing dysfunction; patient experience.; oto-rhino-laryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Nutritional deterioration in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) has a multifactorial etiology mainly associated with tumor and treatment related factors. The objective of the present thesis was to investigate the impact of the disease and treatment on body weight and eating in patients with HNC treated with radiation therapy (RT) as the single modality treatment or as preoperative RT by analyzing body weight and body mass index (BMI) over time, predictive factors for weight loss and BMI, weight loss and BMI as prognostic factors for survival, and by studying the patients’ own experience of food and eating. 5. 5. Gene Expression Patterns in a Rat Model of Human Endometrial Adenocarcinoma

    Författare :Sandra Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rat; complex disease; Endometrial adenocarcinoma; gene expression profiling; cDNA microarrays; candidate genes; Molecular biology; Medical sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Endometrial cancer develops from the endometrium of the uterus and is the most common pelvic malignancy diagnosed in women in the western society. Similar to all cancer diseases, endometrial cancer is a disorder that results from complex patterns of genetic and epigenetic alterations involved in the malignant transformation. LÄS MER
