1. Sámi Prehistories : The Politics of Archaeology and Identity in Northernmost Europe
Sammanfattning : Throughout the history of archaeology, the Sámi (the indigenous people in northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula in the Russian Federation) have been conceptualized as the “Others” in relation to the national identity and (pre)history of the modern states. It is only in the last decades that a field of Sámi archaeology that studies Sámi (pre)history in its own right has emerged, parallel with an ethnic and cultural revival among Sámi groups. LÄS MER
2. "Att blotta vem jag är" : Släktnamnsskick och släktnamnsbyten hos samer i Sverige 1920–2009
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to describe surname patterns and changes of surname among the Sami of Sweden. It presents the results of three studies. The first is a survey of the present-day stock of surnames (family names) among the Sami community, based on the 2005 electoral register for the Swedish Sami Parliament. LÄS MER
3. Revoicing Sámi narratives : north Sámi storytelling at the turn of the 20th century
Sammanfattning : Revoicing Sámi narratives investigates the relationship between storytellers, contexts and collective tradition, based on an analysis of North Sámi narratives published in the early 1900s. This dissertation “revoices” narratives by highlighting the coexistence of different voices or socio-ideological languages in repertoires and by considering Sámi narratives as utterances by storytellers rather than autonomous products of tradition. Sammanfattning : This thesis seeks to develop new ways to understand Sámi self-determination and self-constitution by analyzing Sámi understandings of these concepts and how such understandings, theoretically and politically, can challenge existing notions of what Sámi self-determination is, or can be in the future.According to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), indigenous peoples have the right to determine their own identity or membership in accordance with their own collective customs and traditions.
