  1. 16. Effects of replacing fish oil with vegetable oils in feed for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus)

    Författare :Andreas Pettersson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : As global capture of fish has stagnated and fish consumption is increasing due to a growing human population, the demand can only be met by increased aquaculture production. Fish oil (FO), derived exclusively from wild pelagic fish, has traditionally been used as the primary lipid source in fish feeds. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Genetic and Ecological Consequences of Fish Releases : With Focus on Supportive Breeding of Brown Trout Salmo trutta and Translocation of European Eel Anguilla anguilla

    Författare :Johan Dannewitz; Jacob Höglund; Erik Petersson; Ian Fleming; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; conservation; fishery management; panmixia; genetic variation; effective population size; hatchery selection; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Although the practice of releasing fish into the wild is common in the management and conservation of fish populations, the success of release programmes and the potential harmful genetic and ecological effects that may follow are rarely considered. This thesis focuses on genetic and ecological consequences of fish releases, exemplified by supportive breeding of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and translocation of European eel (Anguilla anguilla). 3. 18. Sustainable farming of Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus)

    Författare :Hanna Carlberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus L.) is a salmonid that is well adapted to cold waters and is commonly farmed in open net cages. A breeding program has enabled a relatively large production in Sweden, providing a continuous supply of fresh fish to the market. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Environmental, nutritional and endocrine regulation of metabolic processes in fish

    Författare :Andreas Kullgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :lipids; metabolism; temperature; fasting; growth hormone; ghrelin; NMR; metabolomics; Salmo salar; Oncorhynchus mykiss;

    Sammanfattning : Due to seasonal variations in temperature and food availability, fish in temperate regions should be able to make metabolic adjustments to ensure that enough energy is available for the maintenance of basal processes. The major aim of this thesis was to elucidate how the physiology and lipid metabolism of salmonid fish is affected by temperature and food availability, and to clarify aspects of the endocrine control of lipid metabolism. 5. 20. Winter behaviour of stream salmonids: effects of temperature, light, and ice cover

    Författare :Johan Watz; Larry Greenberg; Eva Bergman; John Piccolo; Svein Jakob Saltveit; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stream salmonids; winter behaviour; efftect of temperatur; light; ice cover; environment; fish populations; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In boreal streams, stream salmonids typically face low water temperatures and variable ice conditions during winter, and thus stream salmonids are expected to use different behavioural strategies to cope with these environmental conditions. The studies presented in this thesis explore how temperature, light intensity, and surface ice affect salmonid behaviour, with focus on drift-feeding and ventilation rates. LÄS MER
