  1. 1. Glycolytic flux regulation in Saccharomyces cerevisiae during anaerobic growth and starvation

    Författare :Elisabeth Thomsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Saccharomyces; Yeast; Starvation; Energetics; Chemostat; Anaerobic;

    Sammanfattning : The physiology of S. cerevisiae under anaerobic growth conditions is of interest not least during implementation and development of industrial yeast-catalysed ethanol fermentations in order to maintain a productive yeast population. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Metabolic engineering and random mutagenesis for improved xylose utilisation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Fredrik Wahlbom; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; mykologi; virologi; bacteriology; Microbiology; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; ethanol; Saccharomyces; xylose; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have summarised my work on the analysis and improvement of xylose utilisation by recombinant S. cerevisiae. A metabolic flux model was developed and used to analyse the intracellular fluxes in the recombinant xylose utilising S. cerevisiae TMB 3001 cultivated in chemostat at various dilution rates and xylose/glucose concentrations. 3. 3. Modulators of Saccharomyces cerevisiae cytochrome c oxidase : Implications for the regulation of mitochondrial respiration

    Författare :Camilla Rydström Lundin; Peter Brzezinski; Christoph von Ballmoos; Shelagh Ferguson-Miller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytochrome c oxidase; cytochrome c; OXPHOS; membrane protein; kinetics; ligand-binding; electron transfer; Rcf1; respiratory supercomplexes; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria is performed by enzyme complexes and electron carriers that reside in the inner membrane. It is now generally accepted that these respiratory enzyme complexes assemble into larger so-called supercomplexes. However, it is presently not known why, under which conditions or how these supercomplexes form. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Engineering Saccharomyces cerevisiae for mixed-sugar fermentation

    Författare :Rosa Garcia Sanchez; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; metabolic engineering; evolutionary engineering; promoter; mixed-sugar utilization; galactose; arabinose; xylose; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; fermentation; ethanol; phosphoglucomutase;

    Sammanfattning : Efficient fermentation of all the monomeric sugars derived from lignocellulose is crucial to increase the economy of bioethanol production, since they can account for a considerable fraction of the fermentable sugars in the raw material. This thesis describes the engineering of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains for improved xylose, galactose and/or arabinose utilization. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nitrogen and Redox Metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Eva Albers; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; glutamate; protein expression; anaerobic physiology; nitrogen metabolism; redox; serine;

    Sammanfattning : Anaerobic conversion of glucose to ethanol by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been studied. Glycerol is formed as a by-product in order to maintain the overall redox balance. LÄS MER
