  1. 1. Autonomic cardiac control in patients with epilepsy : spectral analysis of heart rate variability

    Författare :Håkan Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :SUDEP; autonomic nervous system; heart rate variability; epilepsy; carbamazepine; epilepsy surgery;

    Sammanfattning : The heart is affected by the central nervous system via sympathetic and para-sympathetic efferents from autonomic centres in the brain stem. By assessing the beat to beat variation of the RR-intervals of the heart, i.e. the heart rate variability (HRV) it is possible to separately analyse sympathetic and parasympathetic effects on the heart. 2. 2. Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, incidence, circumstances and risk factors

    Författare :Olafur Sveinsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Although Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) has attracted increasing attention from the scientific community during the last 20 years, important gaps in knowledge still exist that hamper the development of methods aiming at prevention of this, the most devastating consequence of epilepsy. We are still missing large population-based studies on the incidence of SUDEP. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mortality in epilepsy : epidemiological studies with emphasis on sudden unexpected death and suicide

    Författare :Lena Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this study was to create, through an increase in knowledge, the preconditions for reducing epilepsy patients' significantly increased mortality The main aim was to identify clinical characteristics of patients in a large cohort of adult patients with a diagnosis of epilepsy who had a) undergone sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), or b) committed suicide. Another aim of this study was to describe overall and cause specific mortality in this cohort. LÄS MER
