    Författare :Joakim Hirvonen Grytzelius; Lars Johansson; Hanmin Zhang; Leif Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Semiconductor surfaces; Si 111 ; Ge 111 ; manganese; Mn; silicides; germanides; atomic structure; electronic structure; magnetic properties; LEED; ARPES; XPS; core-level spectroscopy; STM; STS; XMCD; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis concerns experimental studies of thin manganese silicide and germanide layers, grown by solid phase epitaxy on the Si(111)7×7 and the Ge(111)c(2×8) surfaces, respectively. The atomic and electronic structures, as well as growth modes of the epitaxial Mn-Si and Mn-Ge layers, were investigated by low-energy electron diffraction (LEED), angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES), core-level spectroscopy (CLS), and scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS). 2. 2. Scanning tunneling microscopy and photoemission studies of Ag films on metal/semiconductor surfaces

    Författare :Samuel Starfelt; Hanmin Zhang; Lars Johansson; Anders Mikkelsen; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum well states; thin films; semiconductor; STM; STS; ARPES; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis has been focused on the study of thin Ag films, grown on metal-reconstructed Si(111) and Ge(111) surfaces.The films have been grown at room temperature, and the morphologiesand electronic structures of the films have been investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/STS), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy(ARPES).     Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; charge density waves; STM STS; W tips; alkali metal intercalation;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the following issues are discussed: 1. Fundamental properties of two polytypes of TaS2 studied by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS). 2. The influence of Na intercalation on charge density waves (CDW's) in 1T-VSe2 and 4Hb-TaS2 studied by STM and STS. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy Studies of Na Islands on Graphite, Impurity Interactions on Cu(111) and Low Temperature Structures of S/Cu(111)

    Författare :Erik Wahlström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photoelectron spectroscopy; Scanning tunnelling microscopy STM ; Na HOPG; scanning tunnelling spectroscopy STS ; metal quantum wells; surface impurity interaction; S Cu 111 ;

    Sammanfattning : A scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) can reveal the atomic order of a surface as well as details of its electronic structure. In the present work STM, in combination with core and valence photo-electron spectroscopy and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) was applied to three different systems: (i) simple metal quantum wells in the form of Na films and islands on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), (ii) low temperature S/Cu(111) structures discovered in the course of this work and (iii) impurities on Cu(111). 5. 5. Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy and Spectroscopy of Adsorbates on Aluminium and Silicon

    Författare :Mikael Johansson; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alkali metals; Scanning tunnelling spectroscopies; Scanning tunnelling microscopy; Photoelectron Spectroscopy; Single crystal surface; Silicon; Surface structure; Aluminium; Silicides; Fullerenes.; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Johansson;

    Sammanfattning : The main topic of this thesis is the investigation of atomic andmolecular adsorbates on single crystal surfaces of silicon and aluminiumusing the techniques of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) andspectroscopy (STS). The emphasis has been to use atomic-resolutionspectroscopy and imaging to determine the relationship between thesurfaces' geometric and electronic structures. LÄS MER
