1. Development of high-Tc SQUID magnetometers for on-scalp MEG
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of high critical temperature superconducting quantum interference device (high-Tc SQUID) magnetometers based on bicrystal grain boundary and nanowire junctions for the potential use in on-scalp magnetoencephalography (MEG), which is a new generation MEG technique with reduced sensor-to-subject standoff distances.MEG is a method of mapping neural dynamics in the human brain by recording the magnetic fields produced by neural currents. 2. High-temperature superconducting magnetometers for on-scalp MEG
Sammanfattning : In the growing field of on-scalp magnetoencephalography (MEG), brain activity is studied by non-invasively mapping the magnetic fields generated by neuronal currents with sensors that are flexibly placed in close proximity to the subject's head. This thesis focuses on high-temperature superconducting magnetometers made from YBa2Cu3Ox-7 (YBCO), which enables a reduction in the sensor-to-room temperature standoff distance from roughly 2 cm (for conventional MEG systems) down to 1 mm. 3. Key Components for High Tc SQUID Magnetometers
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development of key components for superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometers in the high temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO). Such magnetometers are made for liquid nitrogen temperature operation, as opposed to low Tc devices that are confined to liquid helium. LÄS MER
4. Fabrication and noise properties of high-Tc SQUIDs with multilayer superconducting flux transformers
Sammanfattning : The thesis describes the development of highTc superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) with multilayer thin film flux transformers. High-Tc SQUID magnetometers are promising in various biomedical applications, including magnetoencephalography (MEG) and ultra-low field magnetic resonance imaging (ulf-MRI). LÄS MER
5. Noise and electrical properties of YBCO nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This thesis work deals with the investigation of noise properties in cuprate High critical Temperature Superconductor (HTS) YBCO nanoscale devices. Here the aim is to get a better understanding of nanoscale fluctuations in the normal state of HTS from which superconductivity evolves. LÄS MER
