17. Reconfigurable Receiver Front-Ends for Advanced Telecommunication Technologies
Sammanfattning : The exponential growth of converging technologies, including augmented reality, autonomous vehicles, machine-to-machine and machine-to-human interactions, biomedical and environmental sensory systems, and artificial intelligence, is driving the need for robust infrastructural systems capable of handling vast data volumes between end users and service providers. This demand has prompted a significant evolution in wireless communication, with 5G and subsequent generations requiring exponentially improved spectral and energy efficiency compared to their predecessors. 18. Designs and simulations of silicon-based microphotonic devices
Sammanfattning : The characteristics of a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) rib waveguide, including the bending loss of a multimode bent waveguide and the birefringence of a rib waveguide, are analyzed by using a finite-difference method (FDM). Based on a detailed analysis for a multimode bent waveguide, an appropriately designed multimode bent waveguide for reducing effectively the bending loss of the fundamental mode is realized. LÄS MER
19. Schottky Contacs on Silicon Nanowires
Sammanfattning : This thesis demonstrates the effect of charge on Schottky barrier height for metal contacts at the end surfaces of silicon nanowires. It is shown, by measurements and analytical models, how the effective electron barrier is lowered by a positive charge introduced into an oxide embedding the wire. LÄS MER
20. Integration of graphene into MEMS and NEMS for sensing applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a novel approach to integrate chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene into silicon micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS) to fabricate different graphene based MEMS/NEMS structures and explore mechanical properties of graphene as well as their applications such as acceleration sensing, humidity sensing and CO2 sensing. The thesis also presents a novel method of characterization of CVD graphene grain boundary based defects. LÄS MER
