11. Interindividual differences in thiopurine metabolism : studies with focus on inflammatory bowel disease
Sammanfattning : The thiopurines, 6-mercaptopurine and its prodrug azathioprine, are used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn´s disease. The main active metabolites are the phosphorylated thioguanine nucleotides (6-TGNs) and methylated thioinosine monophosphate (meTIMP). LÄS MER
12. Modeling nanofiber transport and deposition in human airways
Sammanfattning : An understanding of the complex motion of fibrous particles is important in a wide range of areas, including inhalation toxicology, targeted drug delivery, composites manufacturing, paper making, and food processing. While the applications are diverse, the governing equations for the fiber motion may be shared. LÄS MER
13. Particle transport in human lung : effects of particle size and shape
Sammanfattning : Recent studies have shown that nanoparticles may be more toxic than larger particles of the same material, but the health risks associated with widespread use largely depend on the extent of exposure. When dealing with potentially toxic particles, precautionary measures have to be taken in order to minimize contact. LÄS MER
14. The economics of a silent pandemic - A health economic analysis of antibiotic resistance in Sweden
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to analyze the health economic consequences of antibiotic resistance in Sweden, and to assess the implications of methodological assumptions related to measuring health in health economic analysis. The thesis consists of four papers. LÄS MER
15. Stellar Winds of Cool Giants : Investigating the Mass-Loss Mechanism of AGB Stars
Sammanfattning : Asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars are luminous cool giants of low to intermediate mass that are strongly pulsating and non-spherical, with heavy mass loss through a stellar wind. The mass loss makes these stars important for galactic chemistry, as the wind enriches the interstellar medium with new elements and dust, and it determines the final fate of these stars. LÄS MER
