  1. 1. Transcriptional and Epigenetic Regulation of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition

    Författare :E-Jean Tan; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Geert Berx; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGFβ; EMT; HMGA2; Snail; Twist; E-cadherin; epigenetics; invasion; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : The transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) is a cytokine that regulates a plethora of cellular processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and apoptosis. TGFβ signals via serine/threonine kinase receptors and activates the Smads to regulate gene expression. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prognostic and Treatment Predictive Markers Associated with Cyclin D1 Gene Amplification and Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition in Breast Cancer

    Författare :Katja Lundgren; Malmö Patologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; beta-arrestin1; Chk1; Breast Cancer; Tamoxifen; prognostic marker; predictive marker; gene amplification; cyclin D1; EMT; Snail; hypoxia;

    Sammanfattning : Endocrine resistant breast cancer is a major therapeutical challenge and accurate selection of patients susceptible to certain types of anti-hormonal treatment strategies is pivotal. Discovery of novel biomarkers potentially predicting treatment response as well as the clinical course of breast cancer is essential to effectively improve therapies and diagnosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular and Cellular Complexity of Glioma : Highlights on the Double-Edged-Sword of Infiltration Versus Proliferation and the Involvement of T Cells

    Författare :Demet Çağlayan; Bengt Westermark; Maria Ferletta; Ana Martin-Villalba; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and malignant brain tumor, is characterized by high molecular and cellular heterogeneity within and among tumors. Parameters such as invasive growth, infiltration of immune cells and endothelial proliferation contribute in a systemic manner to maintain the malignancy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Psychotropic Pharmaceuticals in Aquatic Systems: An Ecological Perspective

    Författare :Melanie Hedgespeth; Enhet akvatisk ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecotoxicology; aquatic; trophic level; pharmaceutical; SSRI; beta-blocker; sertraline; fluoxetine; propranolol; fish; daphnia; snail; predator; prey; behavior; life history; multiple stressor;

    Sammanfattning : Psychotropic pharmaceuticals have been shown to exert a variety of sublethal effects on non-target organisms, even at low concentrations found in the environment (ng/L to µg/L); hence, the aim of my research has been to determine the individual-level effects of psychotropic pharmaceuticals (the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors sertraline and fluoxetine, and the β-blocker propranolol) on behavioral and life history traits in freshwater organisms. Further, this research was directed towards assessing the potential large-scale impacts of these effects on population growth and predator-prey interactions (with community-level implications) via the application of traditional, ecological concepts and models. 5. 5. TGFβ and LXR signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma

    Författare :Claudia Bellomo; Aristidis Moustakas; Lars Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hepatocellular Carcinoma; high-throughput imaging; small molecules; epithelial plasticity; LXR; Snail; TGFβ; tumor suppression; reactive oxygen species; cancer-associated fibroblast; myofibroblast; Smad3; αSMA;

    Sammanfattning : Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent cancer types in the Western world and in the Asia-pacific regions, with its incidence expected to rise up to 22 million cases till 2020. Hepatocellular carcinoma etiology is mainly due to hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infections, and to a lesser extent it is determined by the development of alcohol-driven cirrhosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
