1. On aging and the role of Ubp3 in heterochromatic gene silencing and protein quality control
Sammanfattning : Aging is characterized by a build-up of damage in organisms ranging from protists to multi-cellular species. This damage adversely affects core components such as DNA and proteins which are necessary to sustain life. LÄS MER
2. Guardians of the genome : Connecting chromatin structure and genome integrity in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sammanfattning : Branched DNA structures arise during recombination and during other DNA repair processes such as repair of stalled replication forks. One branched structure, the Holliday Junction (HJ), is a four-way junction that can connect sister chromatids or homologous chromosomes. We show a physical interaction between the HJ-cleaving enzyme Yen1 and Uls1. LÄS MER
3. On the role of actin in yeast protein quality control
Sammanfattning : Every cell is equipped with a protein quality control system to ensure the proper function of proteins. This is essential for both cell maintenance and the generation of new and healthy cells. LÄS MER
4. Mediator and its role in non-coding RNA and chromatin regualtion
Sammanfattning : Mediator is a multiprotein complex required for the regulation of RNA Polymerase II (Pol II) transcription. Mediator transmits regulatory signals from activators and repressors to the Pol II machinery at the promoter, but the complex has also many other functions related to control of gene transcription. 5. Silencing and DNA double-strand break repair in budding yeast
Sammanfattning : Transcriptional silencing that makes large chromosomal domains inaccessible for the transcriptional apparatus is nucleated at DNA elements called silencers. In K.lactis a 102bp HMLα silencer was defined revealing three distinct protein-binding regions (A, B, and C) that were required for silencing of HMLα. LÄS MER
