1. Dynamic Source Models of Icelandic Earthquakes and Teleseismic Tomograhy along the TOR array
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes new inversion-oriented methodological developments and their seismological applications. In the first study presented the dynamic source parameters of some local Icelandic earthquakes are studied by employing a time domain moment tensor inversion method. LÄS MER
2. Justice and Society : Problems of Reformist Politics
Sammanfattning : The subject of the dissertation is a theoretical discussion of the possibilities and limitations of reformist politics. Theories of social justice and democracy are discussed and assessed in relation to the argument that reformist politics, which underlie the welfare state program, is a contradictory politics. LÄS MER
3. Pulsed laser ablation studied using digital holographic interferometry
Sammanfattning : Pulsed digital holographic interferometry has been used to investigate the plume and the shock wave generated in the ablation process of a Q-switched Nd-YAG (lambda= 1064 nm and pulse duration = 12 ns) laser pulse on a polycrystalline Boron Nitride (PCBN) target under atmospheric air pressure. A special set-up based on using two synchronised wavelengths from the same laser for simultaneous processing and measurement has been used. LÄS MER
4. Nonlinear localization in discrete and continuum systems : applications for optical waveguide arrays
Sammanfattning : An introcludion to the formation of coherent structures in spatially discrete and continuous systems is given. Of special interest is the phenomenon of nonlinear localization, where the self-focusing of an excitation is balanced by a dispersive process. LÄS MER
5. Genetic Analyses using Rolling Circle or PCR Amplified Padlock Probes
Sammanfattning : Padlock probes are useful in a variety of genetic applications, some of which require that the probes are amplified in order to generate detectable signals. Two general padlock amplification methods, RCA and PCR, are discussed in this thesis. LÄS MER
