1. Developing the Angantyr model and extending colour reconnection for heavy-ion collisions in Pythia
Sammanfattning : This thesis is composed of four papers, the first two show the attempts made to extend the Pythia event generator to simulate heavy-ion collision events. The other two papers show methods to improve the hadronization mechanism in the Pythia model for a bettter agreement with the experimental data of pp and heavy-ion collisions. LÄS MER
2. Mechanisms of therapy resistance in acute lymphoblastic leukemia
Sammanfattning : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a highly aggressive pediatric cancer that can affect both B cells and T cells. The advent of new therapies has increased the cure rates for both B-ALL and T-ALL patients. However, some patients still experience relapse with a variable response to the treatment and display poor survival. LÄS MER
3. Molecular mechanisms of fluoroquinolone resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Sammanfattning : Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen. In compromised human, it can cause infections in urinary tract, wound and respiratory tract such as pneumonia and progressive lung diseases. LÄS MER
4. Improving the Efficiency of Gas Engines using Pre-chamber Ignition
Sammanfattning : The aim of this project is to explore and understand the combustion phenomenon in engines operating on gaseous fuels, and develop technologies as an alternative to the present diesel engine technologies for heavy duty applications; which are facing severe challenges like stringent emissions norms, high technology costs and unsustainable fuel supply. The studies presented in this thesis focus on the application of pre-chamber ignition system in heavy duty natural gas engines, as a means to improve fuel efficiency and reduce NOx emissions. LÄS MER
5. Insights into the Molecular Mechanisms of Litter Decomposition and Assimilation of Nitrogen by Ectomycorrhizal Fungi
Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhizae is the dominant type of mycorrhiza found in association with tree roots in boreal and northern temperate forests. In this symbiosis, the fungal partner derives energy from photosynthates provided by the host trees and in return delivers soil-derived nutrients such as nitrogen (N). LÄS MER
