  1. 1. Analysis of DNA adducts formed by tamoxifen and related antiestrogenic and estrogenic compounds in rats

    Författare :Heli Rajaniemi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :DNA adducts; 32P-postlabelling; tamoxifen; toremifene; diethylstilbestrol; clomiphene; triparanol; raloxifene; antiestrogen; estrogen; SERM; genotoxicity; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented herein has focused on DNA adduct formation by the non-steroidal antiestrogen tamoxifen and its analogues. Tamoxifen, [(Z)-1-{4-[2-(dimethylamino)-ethoxy]phenyl}-1,2-diphenyl-1-butene], is widely used in the treatment of breast cancer and its recognised side effect is endometrial cancer. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modulation of estrogen receptors alpha and beta. Effects on the immune system

    Författare :Malin Erlandsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogen affects the development and function of the immune system. Gonadectomized mice treated with estrogen display suppressed T and B lymphopoiesis and inhibited T cell and granulocyte dependent inflammation, while mature B cells are stimulated to produce more immunoglobulins. 3. 3. Arthritis and immune-mediated bone loss - role of estrogen signalling pathways

    Författare :Cecilia Engdahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Arthritis; Bone; Estrogen;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with immune-mediated bone loss and thereby increased risk for fractures. Estrogen and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) ameliorate not only the incidence and progression of experimental RA but also the immune-mediated bone loss. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immune regulation by selective estrogen receptor modulators

    Författare :Angelina I Bernardi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; Endocrinology; Mice; Lasofoxifene; Bazedoxifene; Raloxifene; Estrogen; Osteoporosis; B cells; T cells; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : At menopause, the levels of estrogen decline, leading to loss of estrogen-mediated protective effects on bone and an increased risk of osteoporosis. Hormone replacement therapy, containing estrogen, has been used for many years to prevent and treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effect of estrogen on longitudinal bone growth

    Författare :Andrei S Chagin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Growth plate; chondrocytes; estrogen receptors; androgen; tamoxifen.;

    Sammanfattning : Longitudinal bone growth occurs at the growth plate, a thin layer of cartilage between the epiphysis and the metaphysis of long bones. In the growth plate resting chondrocytes proliferate, differentiate into a hypertrophic form, and finally become terminal hypertrophic chondrocytes before giving rise to bone. LÄS MER
