  1. 6. Characterization of ATP-dependent protein dynamics under native-like conditions

    Författare :Harsha Ravishankar; Magnus Andersson; Hans Wolf-Watz; Lise Arleth; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proteins; membrane proteins; structural dynamics; ATPases; MD simulations; X-ray scattering; FTIR spectroscopy; ATP; TR-XSS; structural biology.; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are biological macromolecules capable of accelerating biochemical reactions. To accomplish this, proteins undergo changes in their molecular structure. Advances in structural biology have resulted in ever-increasing numbers of high-resolution protein structures. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Characterization of membrane protein active transport under native-like conditions

    Författare :Harsha Ravishankar; Magnus Andersson; Pål Stenmark; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : P-type ATPase proteins are a family of membrane proteins that maintain concentration gradients of e.g. ions by ATP-driven transport across the membrane. While these transporters share many features in their molecular architecture, structural differences are required to convey ion specificity. LÄS MER

  3. 8. A modular mRNA approach to study and treat phospholamban mediated cardiomyopathies

    Författare :Eduarde Rohner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In the heart, phospholamban (PLN) is a key regulator of calcium cycling through its inhibitory effect on the sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA) pump. For more than two decades, modulating calcium channels has been a strong focus of prospective cardiac therapeutics with a recent emphasis on targeting PLN itself, partially due to the progressive uncovering of several cardiomyopathic PLN human mutations. 4. 9. Calcium signaling in development and disease

    Författare :Marie Karlsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The calcium ion (Ca2+) is a highly versatile signaling messenger involved in a diverse range of physiological processes such as gene transcription/expression, proliferation, differentiation and cell death. Intracellular Ca2+ signals are generated through a 10 000 – 20 000 fold gradient across the cell membrane and via release from the external milieu and/or internal Ca2+ stores. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Identification of compounds that target glioma initiating cells

    Författare :Shimei Wee; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme is a common form of brain tumor that leads to debilitating effects despite the current regiment of treatment, which includes surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. With the discovery of glioma-initiating cells (GICs) that exists within the bulk tumor, some light has been shed on this disease. LÄS MER
