1. Nanoparticle assisted tribofilm formation and material transfer studied with SEM and TEM
Sammanfattning : The discovery and subsequent synthesis of metal containing fullerenes- IFS (Inorganic Fullerene-like Structures) by R. Tenne et al. has generated considerable scientific interest with great potential impact in many industrial application areas such as lubrication. LÄS MER
2. Synthesis of Transition Metal Aluminides from Elemental Powder Mixtures
Sammanfattning : Structural components such as those used in gas turbines for energy conversion applications, are subjected to high loads at elevated temperatures. In order to ensure that the components survive under these conditions for a sufficiently long time, it is imperative to select materials with good high temperature properties like strength and corrosion resistance. 3. Corrosion of painted galvanized steel pretreated with Zr-based thin films
Sammanfattning : For decades, phosphating has been considered state of the art for pretreating car bodies in order to promote corrosion resistance and paint adhesion. Although it offers excellent corrosion protection, the phosphating process has drawbacks. LÄS MER
4. Characterisation of Nickel-Based Superalloys Manufactued by Electron Beam Melting
Sammanfattning : Nickel-based superalloys have been manufactured by electron beam melting (EBM). EBM is an additive manufacturing process for direct production of metal parts. The part is build up by successive melting of metal powder layers in a vacuum chamber using electron beam. LÄS MER
5. The Influence of Water Vapour on the Oxidation Behaviour of High-temperature Materials Microstructure investigation using analytical electron microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the analytical electron microscopy work carried out on samples exposed to high-temperature oxidation in O2 atmospheres with the intention of investigating the effect of oxygen and water vapour. SEM/EDS, TEM/EDS and diffraction techniques, complemented by FIB precision milling, were employed to characterise the formed oxide scales as well as the material directly under the scale in order to understand the mechanisms that influence the corrosion process.
