11. Exploring the Effects of ICT on Environmental Sustainability: From Life Cycle Assessment to Complex Systems Modeling
Sammanfattning : The production and consumption of information and communication technology (ICT) products and services continue to grow worldwide. This trend is accompanied by a corresponding increase in electricity use by ICT, as well as direct environmental impacts of the technology. Yet a more complicated picture of ICT’s effects is emerging. LÄS MER
12. Utilization of medical healthcare among older people In relation to long-term municipal care
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate utilization of medical healthcare, i.e. hospital care and outpatient care, over a period of 1 to 5 years among people aged 65 years or older. LÄS MER
13. Studies on translation initiation and gene expression in Escherichia coli
Sammanfattning : In prokaryotes, several mRNA sequences surrounding the initiation codon have been found to influence the translation process; these include the downstream region and its codon context, the Shine-Dalgarno sequence and the S1 ribosomal protein-binding site. In this thesis, the purpose has been to study the role of the downstream region and Shine-Dalgarno-like sequences on early translation elongation and gene expression in Escherichia coli. LÄS MER
14. Genetic differences in neuropathy and opioid responses in rats
Sammanfattning : The studies examined mechanisms and treatments of experimental neuropathic pain with particular emphasis on the differences between rat strains and sub-strains in basal nociceptive sensitivity, development of neuropathic behaviors and sensitivity to opioid analgesia. In order to study the mechanisms that mediate mechanical allodynia (touch-evoked pain) following ischemic nerve injury to the sciatic nerve in rats, the myelinated primary afferents have been examined in the injured and intact nerves. 15. Bystander CPR : New aspects of CPR training among students and the importance of bystander education level on survival
Sammanfattning : Background: It has been proved that bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) saves lives; however, which training method in CPR is most instructive and whether survival is affected by the training level of the bystander have not yet been fully described. Aim: To identify the factors that may affect 7th grade students’ acquisition of CPR skills during CPR training and their willingness to act, and to describe 30-day survival from outof- hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) after bystander CPR and the actions performed by laymen versus off-duty medically educated personnel.
