1. Secondary chlorophyll a luminescence decay kinetics from green algae and higher plants : mechanisms and application
Sammanfattning : Barley protoplasts were shown to be a suitable experimental system for studies on the relative maximum during the decay of luminescence observed in most photosynthetic systems after excitation with far red light and in the presence of O2. The far red induced relative luminescencemaximum was shown to be a result of three coinciding events:*Randomization of the S-states of the water splitting system during illumination with far red light. 2. Effects of Protons and Small Alcohols on the Oxygen-Evolving Complex of Photosystem II
Sammanfattning : Higher plants and algae use oxygenic photosynthesis to convert solar energy to reducing equivalents and chemical energy. The ultimate electron donor to oxygenic photosynthesis is water. Oxidation of water to oxygen occurs in the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) in Photosystem II (PSII). The OEC is composed of four Mn atoms, Ca2+ and Cl-. LÄS MER
3. Essays in Empirical Finance
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains three self-contained chapters, covering different subjects but using similar methods: The Effect of Foreclosure Laws on Securitization: Evidence from U.S. States shows that mortgage loans are less likely to be securitized in states with costlier foreclosure procedures. 4. Optical properties of some complex defects in silicon
Sammanfattning : lnfrared absorption spectroscopy has been used study transitions between electronic states related to some complex defects in silicon. Three different defects have been studied: a complex defect involving carbon as one of its constituents, a divacancy, and a defect found in silicon containing tin. LÄS MER
5. Trapping Tyrosine Z : Exploring the Relay between Photochemistry and Water Oxidation in Photosystem II
Sammanfattning : Photosystem II is unique! It remains the only enzyme that can oxidize water using light as energy input. Water oxidation in photosystem II is catalyzed by the CaMn4 cluster. The electrons extracted from the CaMn4 cluster are transferred to P680+ via the tyrosine residue D1-Tyr161 (YZ). LÄS MER
