6. Optimized processes in sawmills
Sammanfattning : This work was initiated in order to show the potential for Swedish sawmills to achieve higher productivity by implementation of improved process control tools in breakdown and production flows. Accessible and reliable production data are crucial information concerning the area of process control; hence the objective in this study was to create a "toolbox" of suitable tools for decision support, surveys and analyses. 7. Supply chain optimization in the forest industry
Sammanfattning : The scope of this thesis is modelling and solving large-scale planning problems in the supply chain within the forest industry. Five research papers are included, the first three of which focus on the modelling, and the last two on the solution methods. LÄS MER
8. Characterization of sawlogs using industrial X-ray and 3D scanning
Sammanfattning : In the Nordic countries, sawlogs are typically sorted upon arrival at the sawmill based on species and dimension. By processing batches of logs with similar size, the sawing process becomes more efficient; the need to change sawing pattern between individual logs is reduced, and the handling of sawn goods is simplified, since the number of different dimensions produced simultaneously decreases. 9. Strength grading of structural timber and EWP laminations of Norway spruce : Development potentials and industrial applications
Sammanfattning : Machine strength grading of structural timber is a sawmill process by which considerable value is added to sawn products. The principle of such grading is that the strength of a timber member is predicted on the basis of a so called indicating property (IP) which, in general, represents an averaged value of the modulus of elasticity (MOE) measured over a board length of about one meter or more. 10. Electromagnetic Modelling for the Estimation of Wood Parameters
Sammanfattning : Spiral grain in trees causes trouble to the wood industry, since boards sawn from trees with large grain angle have severe problems with form stability. Measurements of the grain angle under bark enable the optimisation of the refining process. LÄS MER
