    Sammanfattning : Cultural semiotics studies encounters between cultures. Notions such as Culture, Extra-culture and Non-culture were developed in the 1970s by the Tartu school and were used in their studies of Russian culture and its relation to Western Europe, with special focus on Peter the Great's attempt to Westernize Russia in the eighteenth century.     Sammanfattning : In order to examine contemporary Russian cinema, this thesis has two points of departure: firstly the Petersburg myth, which is here defined as reversible or ambiguous since it includes both an eschatological and a cosmogonic aspect; and secondly, the Petersburg literary text as defined in works by Vladimir Toporov. During the twentieth century, the vitality and actuality of the Petersburg myth was questioned both in literature and in theoretical works. LÄS MER

Special attention is paid to metaphors, metonymies, lexical multiplicity (that is a multiplicity of relevant meanings codified in a dictionary) and obscure syntactic connections and how these aspects are combined in his poems.
