    Sammanfattning : Efforts to address environmental concerns have resulted in new regulations designed to plan the reduction of plastic and synthetic polymer usage, necessitating the search for sustainable natural alternatives with comparable cost-effectiveness and mechanical performance. Thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibres are one of the most affordable natural fibres that have no chemical refining in production, production have a high yield of 90-98% and TMP fibres have been demonstrated to improve the mechanical characteristics (strength, stiffness and toughness) of wood-polymer composites (WPCs) compared to the pure polymer. 2. 2. Coagulation of Cellulose: from Ionic-Liquid Solution to Cellulose Nanostructure

    Författare :Artur Hedlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wet Spinning; Cellulose; Ionic Liquids; Diffusion; Coagulation; Nonsolvent;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract A linear chain of glucose monomers, cellulose, provides the structural reinforcement of the cell walls of plants and constitutes almost half of their dry mass. Wood and other plant-based raw materials are processed on a large industrial scale to isolate the cellulose, which is then dissolved. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Structural and Electronic Properties of Graphene on 4H- and 3C-SiC

    Sammanfattning : Graphene is a one-atom-tick carbon layer arranged in a honeycomb lattice. Graphene was first experimentally demonstrated by Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov in 2004 using mechanical exfoliation of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (exfoliated graphene flakes), for which they received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010. 4. 4. Surface tension-driven flow in soft porous materials — An investigation of the mechanism of capillary flow in microchannels of hydrogels

    Författare :Johanna Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wetting on soft materials; Capillary flow; alginate gel; capillary action;

    Sammanfattning : Spontaneous spreading of liquids in porous materials is of great industrial relevance and occurs in, for example, diapers, fabrics, paper or paint. Often, it is necessary to manipulate the spreading rate of liquids to result in the desired mass transport, for example to soak up large liquid volumes, as in a diaper. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Foaming of cellulose derivatives and hemicellulose-containing materials

    Författare :Kristina Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; β-glucan; arabinoxylan; scale-up production; hydroxypropyl methylcellulose HPMC ; ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose EHEC ; hot-mould foaming; extensional viscosity; extrusion; hemicellulose; rheological characterisation; Foaming; xylan; cellulose derivatives;

    Sammanfattning : Fossil-based polymeric foams are important materials due to their good mechanical properties relative their low density, the low price and the possibility for large-scale production. They are widely used in cushioning, absorbing and insulation applications. There are however a few disadvantages with these foamed products. LÄS MER
