  1. 6. Studies of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow

    Författare :Shintaro Imayama; Henrik Alfredsson; Rebecca Lingwood; Peter Thomas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluid mechanics; laminar-turbulent transition; convective instability; absolute instability; secondary instability; hot-wire anemometry; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : The rotating-disk boundary layer is not only a simpler model for the study of cross-flow instability than swept-wing boundary layers but also a useful simplification of many industrial-flow applications where rotating configurations are present. For the rotating disk, it has been suggested that a local absolute instability, leading to a global instability, is responsible for the small variation in the observed laminar-turbulent transition Reynolds number however the exact nature of the transition is still not fully understood. 2. 7. Dissimilar joining of aluminium to ultra-high strength steels by friction stir welding

    Författare :Wallop Ratanathavorn; Arne Melander; Gunnar Bolmsjö; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aluminium alloy; high strength steel; intermetallic; friction stir welding; dissimilar joining; SRA - Produktion; SRA - Production;

    Sammanfattning : Multi-material structures are increasingly used in vehicle bodies to reduce weight of cars. The use of these lightweight structures is driven by requirements to improve fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions. The automotive industry has replaced conventional steel components by lighter metals such as aluminium alloy. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Chatter stability of turning and milling with process damping

    Författare :Mahdi Eynian; Yusuf Altintas; Canada The University of British Columbia The Faculty of Graduate Studies (Mechanical Engineering); []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The prediction of chatter instability in machining steel and thermal-resistant alloys at low ‎cutting speeds has been difficult due to unknown process damping contributed by the ‎contact mechanism between tool flank and wavy surface finish. This thesis presents ‎modeling and measurement of process damping coefficients, and the prediction of chatter ‎stability limits for turning and milling operations at low cutting speeds. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Development and evaluation of hybrid joining for metals to polymers using friction stir welding

    Författare :Wallop Ratanathavorn; Arne Melander; Stefan Hallström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloy; thermoplastic; friction stir welding; dissimilar joining; Production Engineering; Industriell produktion;

    Sammanfattning : Combinations of different materials are increasingly used in the modern engineering structures. The driving forces of this trend are rising fuel costs, global warming, customer demands and strict emission standards. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Robotic Friction Stir Welding for Flexible Production

    Författare :Jeroen De Backer; Gunnar Bolmsjö; Giorgos Nikoleris; Anders Robertsson; Högskolan Väst; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Friction Stir Welding; Automation; Robotics; Aluminium; Lightweight design; Industriell arbetsvetenskap; Industrial engineering; Mechatronics; Mekatronik;

    Sammanfattning : Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a modern welding process that joins materials by frictional heat, generated by a rotating tool. Unlike other welding processes, the material never melts, which is beneficial for the weld properties. LÄS MER
