6. Genotype-phenotype studies in brain tumors
Sammanfattning : Meningioma and glioma are the most common primary brain tumors, but their etiologies are largely unknown. Although meningioma is usually benign, their intracranial location can lead to lethal consequences, and despite progress in surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy the prognosis for patients with glioma remains poor. 7. Identification and investigations of leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains protein 2 (LRIG2)
Sammanfattning : Receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) constitute a family of proteins controlling cell growth and proliferation and whose activities are tightly controlled in normal cells. LRIG1 is a negative regulator of RTK signaling and is a proposed tumor suppressor. The aim of this thesis was to identify and study possible paralogs of LRIG1. LÄS MER
8. Cisplatin-resistance and cell death in malignant pleural mesothelioma cells
Sammanfattning : Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive, treatment-resistant tumour. Cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II)) is the best single-agent chemotherapy for MPM, but platinum-based combination therapies give the best overall response rates. However, cisplatin use is limited by resistance and severe side effects. LÄS MER
9. Bacterial toxins for cancer treatment
Sammanfattning : Even though anti‐cancer chemotherapy has been continuously improved during the last decades. problems with adverse effects and drug resistance still constitutes a considerable obstacle and sets a demand for new effective treatment options. LÄS MER
10. The expression and molecular functions of LRIG proteins in cancer and psoriasis
Sammanfattning : The leucine-rich repeats and immunoglobulin-like domains (LRIG) family consists of three integral membrane proteins that are important in human cancer. LRIG1 is a negative regulator of growth factor signaling. Its expression is associated with longer survival in several cancer types, and the gene has been shown to function as a tumor suppressor.
