1. A Co-Simulation Approach for Hydraulic Percussion Units
Sammanfattning : This Licentiate of Engineering thesis concerns modelling and simulation of hydraulic percussion units. These units are often found in equipment for breaking or drilling in rock and concrete, and are also often driven by oil hydraulics, in which complex fluid-structure couplings are essential for their operation. 2. Analysis and Modelling of Mineral and Element Composition in Compression Breakage
Sammanfattning : The outstanding properties of tungsten and tantalum make them valuable metals and, in some cases, irreplaceable in applications. The growing interest due to the high economic importance and the limited supply places these metals in the critical metals risk list. LÄS MER
3. Fracture mechanics and tribology of rock and rock joints
Sammanfattning : In the first part of the thesis fracture toughness tests of rocks are described. Specimens of Stripa Granite have been tested in three point bending, compact tension and short rod tension. LÄS MER
4. Reliability-based design of rock tunnel support
Sammanfattning : Since 2009, design of rock tunnels can be performed in accordance with the Eurocodes, which allows that different design methodologies are applied, such as design by calculation or design using the observational method. To account for uncertainties in design, the Eurocode states that design by calculation should primarily be performed using the partial factor method or reliability-based methods. LÄS MER
5. Rock fragmentation by indentation and disc cutting : some theoretical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : The main objective of the thesis is to increase the understanding of failure mechanisms of rock drilling and rock cutting methods in general, and rock boring by disc cutters in particular. The thesis consists of five separate papers. Paper A presents the theoretical elastic stress field of indexed indenters and some laboratory observations. LÄS MER
