1. Robot Sound in Interaction : Analyzing and Designing Sound for Human-Robot Coordination
Sammanfattning : Robots naturally emit sound, but we still know little about how sound can serve as an interface that makes a robot’s behavior explainable to humans. This dissertation draws on insights about human practices for coordinating bodily activities through sound, investigating how they could inform robot design. LÄS MER
2. From Motion Pictures to Robotic Features : Adopting film sound design practices to foster sonic expression in social robotics through interactive sonification
Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates the role of sound design in social robotics, drawing inspiration from robot depictions in science-fiction films. It addresses the limitations of robots’ movements and expressive behavior by integrating principles from film sound design, seeking to improve human-robot interaction through expressive gestures and non-verbal sounds. 3. Robots that help each other : self-configuration of eistributed robot systems
Sammanfattning : Imagine the following situation. You give your favorite robot, named Pippi, the task to fetch a heavy parcel that just arrived at your front door. While pushing the parcel back to you, she must travel through a door. Unfortunately, the parcel she is pushing is blocking her camera, giving her a hard time to see the door. LÄS MER
4. Indoor Navigation for Mobile Robots : Control and Representations
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with various aspects of indoor navigationfor mobile robots. For a system that moves around in ahousehold or office environment, two major problems must betackled. First, an appropriate control scheme has to bedesigned in order to navigate the platform. Second, the form ofrepresentations of the environment must be chosen. LÄS MER
5. Robot system for flexible 3D friction stir welding
Sammanfattning : Applying Friction Stir Welding (FSW) on complex joint geometries requires not only a machine with 3-dimesional work space capacity, but also a sound definition of the part geometry as well as knowledge about the process. Having a joining process, such as FSW, with great characteristics from both seam quality and environmental perspective, but yet only a minor presence in the manufacturing industry may be related to flexibility and cost issues.
