  1. 1. Wellbore stability analysis based on a new true-triaxial failure criterion

    Författare :Adel Al-Ajmi; Robert Zimmerman; Bernt Aadnoy; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; failure criteria; Mogi failure criterion; intermediate principal stress; polyaxial test data; wellbore stability; Geoengineering and mining engineering; Geoteknik och gruvteknik;

    Sammanfattning : A main aspect of wellbore stability analysis is the selection of an appropriate rock failure criterion. The most commonly used criterion for brittle failure of rocks is the Mohr-Coulomb criterion. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Rock damage caused by underground excavation and meteorite impacts

    Författare :Ann Bäckström; Robert Zimmerman; John A Hudson; Flavio Lanaro; Pekka Särkkä; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Excavation Damage Zone EDZ ; Fracture analysis; Pre-existing fractures; Class II behaviour; 3D laser scanning; Impact fracturing; Geoengineering; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The intent of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of the origin of fractures in rock. The man-made fracturing from engineering activities in crystalline rock as well as the fracturing induced by the natural process of meteorite impacts is studied by means of various characterization methods. 3. 3. Estimation of the Elastic Moduli of Porous Materials using Analytical Methods, Numerical Methods, and Image Analysis

    Författare :Thushan Chandrasiri Ekneligoda; Robert W. Zimmerman; Igor Tsukrov; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Sammanfattning : The effective bulk modulus and effective shear modulus of porous materials having various types of pore shapes are investigated, using both analytical and numerical methods. These solutions, and the scaling laws that are derived with the aid of these solutions, are then used to make predictions of the effective elastic moduli of some sandstones and ceramics, based on two-dimensional images of the pore space. 4. 4. Upscaling of Flow, Transport, and Stress-effects in Fractured Rock

    Författare :Johan Öhman; Auli Niemi; Ove Stephansson; Robert W Zimmerman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrology; Upscaling; fractured media; flow; solute transport; thermo-hydro-mechanical processes; hybrid approach; continuum approximation; discrete fracture network; stochastic continuum; Hydrologi; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : One of many applications of geohydraulic modelling is assessing the suitability of a site to host a nuclear waste repository. This modelling task is complicated by scale-dependent heterogeneity and coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) processes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On Free Will as Categorical and Conditional Freedom

    Författare :Peter Ryman; Erik Carlson; Michael Zimmerman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Free Will; Existence of Free Will; Moral Responsibility; Autonomy; Can; Could; Ought; Categorical Freedom; Agent Causation; Conditional Freedom; Conditional Analysis; Infinite Regress Argument; Ability and Opportunity; Consequence Argument; Mind Argument; Peter van Inwagen; Harry Frank-furt; David Lewis; Robert Kane; Galen Strawson; Erik Carlson; Keith Lehrer; Krister Segerberg; Counterfactuals; Supplementers; Laws of Nature; Causally Complete; Physicalism; Closure of Physics; Supervenience.; Praktisk filosofi; Practical Philosophy;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about a complex of problems, related to the question: ‘Can we ever act differently from how we in fact act?’In Part I, the meaning of ‘can’ and ‘could’ is discussed. It is argued that when we say that an agent could do something he didn’t do (in a sense of ‘could’ involving control), this means, in what is called ‘Decision-Contexts’, that he was conditionally free to do it, and, in what is called ‘Strong-Autonomy-Contexts’, that he was categorically free to do it.
