6. Realistic simulations of delta wing aerodynamics using novel CFD methods
Sammanfattning : The overall goal of the research presented in this thesis is to extend the physical understanding of the unsteady external aerodynamics associated with highly maneuverable delta-wing aircraft by using and developing novel, more efficient computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools. More specific, the main purpose is to simulate and better understand the basic fluid phenomena, such as vortex breakdown, that limit the performance of delta-wing aircraft. LÄS MER
7. Vortex generator modeling and its application to optimal control of airflow in inlet
Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with the development of the vortex generator model and its use for the optimization study of vortex generator flow control in high-offset-ed inlets. In the first part, the overview of use of vortex generators and their mechanism is outlined. LÄS MER
8. Multidisciplinary Design in Aeronautics, Enhanced by Simulation-Experiment Synergy
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers some aspects of current aircraft design, and presents how experiment and simulation are used as tools. Together they give enhanced effects over employing either one separately. The work presented has been produced using both simulations and experiments. LÄS MER
9. Contributions to Variable Fidelity MDO Framework for Collaborative and Integrated Aircraft Design
Sammanfattning : The thesis develops computational tools for early stages of the aircraft design process. The work focuses on a framework which allows several design teams concurrently to develop a baseline concept into a configuration which meets requirements and whose aerodynamics has been assessed by flight simulation. 10. Acceleration of Compressible Flow Simulations with Edge Using Implicit Time Stepping
Sammanfattning : Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a significant tool routinely used indesign and optimization in aerospace industry. Often cases with unsteadyflows must be computed, and the long compute times of standard methods hasmotivated the present work on new implicit methods to replace the standardexplicit schemes. LÄS MER
