  1. 1. Folding of the Ribosomal protein S6 : The role of sequence connectivity, overlapping foldons, and parallel pathways

    Författare :Ellinor Haglund; Mikael Oliveberg; Neil Ferguson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein folding; protein stability; two-state folding; S6; chevron plot; transition state; parallell pathways; foldon; two-channel landscape; protein engineering; H D-exchange; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : To investigate how protein folding is affected by sequence connectivity five topological variants of the ribosomal protein S6 were constructed through circular permutation.  In these constructs, the chain connectivity (i.e. the order of secondary-structure elements) is changed without changing the native-state topology. 2. 2. Non-protein-coding RNA : Transcription and regulation of ribosomal RNA

    Författare :Stefanie Böhm; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Brian McStay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ribosomal RNA; non-coding RNA; ribosomal genes; rDNA gene; B-WICH; chromatin remodelling; histone modification; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cell growth and proliferation are processes in the cell that must be tightly regulated. Transcription of ribosomal RNA and ribosomal biogenesis are directly linked to cell growth and proliferation, since the ribosomal RNA encodes for the majority of transcription in a cell and ribosomal biogenesis influences directly the number of proteins that are synthesized. 3. 3. Ribosomal Stalk Protein L12 : Structure, Function and Application

    Författare :Chandra Sekhar Mandava; Suparna Sanyal; Knud Nierhaus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome; protein synthesis; L12 dimer; initiation; elongation; G factors; and His-tag; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Ribosomal stalk proteins are known to play important role in protein synthesis. The ‘stalk’, an extended structure on the large subunit of the ribosome is composed mainly of two to three dimers of L12 and one L10 protein, which forms the base of the stalk. In E. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The birth and growth of the protein folding nucleus : Studies of protein folding focused on critical contacts, topology and ionic interactions

    Författare :Linda Hedberg; Mikael Oliveberg; Christopher Johnson; Stockholms universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are among the most complex molecules in the cell and they play a major role in life itself. The complexity is not restricted to just structure and function, but also embraces the protein folding reaction. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : One of the most challenging tasks remaining in the field of biochemistry is the one of understanding how the information within the amino acid sequence of proteins translates into a unique structure. Solving this problem would lead to endless possibilities for application in the medical and biotechnology industry. LÄS MER
