  1. 11. Pathogenetic factors of importance for the development and progression of rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Heidi Kokkonen; Solbritt Rantapää-Dahlqvist; Dirkjan van Schaardenburg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rheumatoid arthritis; cytokines; autoantibodies; isotypes; PTPN22; HLA-SE; reumatologi; rheumatology;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by joint inflammation eventually leading to the destruction of cartilage and bone. The aetiopathogenesis is not completely understood, but previous studies have shown that the disease is multifactorial with genetic, environmental and hormonal factors involved. Immune cells, e. 2. 12. Gut Mucosal Reactivity to Gluten and Cow´s Milk Protein in Rheumatic Diseases

    Författare :Maria Lidén; Roger Hällgren; Gudjón Kristjánsson; Sigrídur Valtýsdóttir; Thomas Skogh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Primary Sjögren’s syndrome; rheumatoid arthritis; spondyloarthropathies; rectal challenge; food sensitivity; myeloperoxidase; nitric oxide and barrier permeability; Rheumatology; Reumatologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprised patients with chronic rheumatic diseases. The studies aimed to elucidate food sensitivity by measuring mucosal inflammatory reactivity and thereby a possible link between the gut and joints. LÄS MER

  3. 13. On the immunopathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus - Immune complexes, type I interferon system, complement system and platelets

    Författare :Christian Lood; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; systemic lupus erythematosus; autoimmunity; rheumatology; immunology; cardiovascular disease;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune rheumatic disorder characterized by inflammation in several organ systems. SLE patients have an impaired ability to clear dying cells which leads to the exposure of several nuclear antigens which might break self tolerance. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Systemic sclerosis : vascular, pulmonary and immunological aspects

    Författare :Grethe Neumann Andersen; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Sören Jacobsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic sclerosis; interstitial lung disease; MMP-9; Th1 Th2; transcription factors; NO; iNOS; E-selectin; endothelium-dependent dilation; endothelium-independent dilation.; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : In systemic sclerosis (SSc), interstitial lung disease (ILD) and engagement of the vascular system lead to increased morbidity and mortality. The aim of this thesis was to elucidate, in a consecutively included cohort of SSc (limited and diffuse) patients (n = 33), the T cell cytokine profile driving the disease in ILD and to explore the role of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9) and its inhibitor: tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1) in the extracellular matrix (ECM) degrading process leading to fibrous scarring and honey combing. 5. 15. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation

    Författare :Christopher Sjöwall; Thomas Skogh; Johan Frostegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoantibodies; complement activation; C-reactive protein; cytokines; immune complex; immunoregulation; opsonization; systemic lupus erythematosus; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates.
