6. Targeted gene transfer in the developing central nervous system using viral vectors
Sammanfattning : Dopamine (DA) is a neurotransmitter that plays a fundamental role in many aspects of normal brain function. The majority of DA neurons in the brain reside in one region ? the midbrain ? and project axonal connections to specific areas. One of the main target regions of the DA system is the striatum. 7. Envelopment of retrovirus and vaccinia virus
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes envelopment of retrovirus and vaccinia virus. Retrovirus envelopment, i.e. budding, occurs from the plasma membrane (PM) of infected cells in an environment that is abundant with cellular proteins. LÄS MER
8. Activation of retrovirus spikes for membrane fusion
Sammanfattning : Retroviruses are enveloped viruses that use reverse transcriptase to convert their RNA genome into DNA which is integrated into the host DNA. They enter into the cell by a membrane fusion process. In this the viral membrane fuses with that of the cell so that the internal capsid of the virus with the genome can be released into the cell cytoplasm. LÄS MER
9. Gene Expression in the Brains of Two Lines of Chicken Divergently Selected for High and Low Body Weight
Sammanfattning : Artificial divergent selection of chickens for high and low body weight at 8 weeks of age has produced two lines: the high (HWS) and low (LWS) body weight chicken lines. In addition to the difference in body weight, the lines show extreme differences in feeding behaviour and body composition. LÄS MER
10. Retroviral and related nucleic acid processing enzymes expression and detection : Applications on clinical studies of HIV and HERVs
Sammanfattning : Reverse transcriptase (RT), the expression and detection of the enzyme marking the family Retroviridae, has been studied. A new RT activity assay adapted to 96-well microtitre plates is described. It uses a non- radioactive bromodeoxyuridine triphosphate (BrdUTP) substrate in a solid phase format. The assay was highly sensitive. LÄS MER
