21. The therapeutic potential of ex vivo expanded natural killer (NK) cells for immunotherapy of cancer
Sammanfattning : Cell and gene therapy of cancers has received much attention in the past decade. A number of applications of cancer treatment have been developed and used. One of the recent applications is immunotherapy of tumours with human natural killer (NK) cells. LÄS MER
22. Targeting of viral proteins to axons and dendrites
Sammanfattning : In the thesis distribution of different proteins of enveloped and non-enveloped viruses was studied in neurons, which are polarized cells with an axonal and a somatodendritic domain. Such studies may give better insight not only into virus spread within neuronal populations and selective changes in infected neurons as a consequence of the spread, but they may also contribute to an understanding of the basic sorting mechanisms, which are responsible for asymmetric targeting of macromolecules to the pre- and postsynaptic regions in a nerve cell. 23. Human Endogenous Retroviruses: Expression and Evolutionary Relationships
Sammanfattning : The human genome contains genetic elements which are more or less similar to infectious retroviruses. These are called human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) and are thought to be remnants of infections in the primate lineage. LÄS MER
24. A Short Thesis about Growth Factors in Gliomas
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common form of primary brain tumor in humans. Its aggressive and infiltrative growth into the brain, and, at best, only partial sensitivity to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, renders it extremely difficult to treat and survival remains dismal. 25. Changes in gene expression during delayed neuronal death after cerebral ischemia in the rat
Sammanfattning : After transient global cerebral ischemia, selected populations of neurons in the brain will die after a period of 2-3 days, a phenomenon termed delayed neuronal death. This is of clinical importance as delayed neuronal death has been found to occur in humans as well. LÄS MER
