11. The cultured neuroretina: development, survival and transplantation
Sammanfattning : In the cultured immature rat full-thickness neuroretina, massive apoptosis appears in the GCL within hours after explantation, but in the ONL cell death is low. Microglia cells become activated when the retina is kept in culture and are found in the GCL within 24 hours of culture. LÄS MER
12. Photoreceptors in experimental retinal cell transplants
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the fate of photoreceptor cells when using different strategies for retinal cell transplantation. Comparing transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina with cell suspensions of the same tissue we found that transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina result in mature transplants with a higher degree of cellular organization than transplantation of cell suspensions of embryonic retina. 13. Retinal Transplants: Growth Differentiation Integration Organization and Survival
Sammanfattning : The goal of the study was to get a better understanding of factors controlling the growth, differen-tia-tion, integration, organization and survival of retinal transplants, with the long-term view of eventually developing retinal transplantation into a clinically useful procedure for treating degenerative retinal disorders such as retinitis pigmentosa. Embryonic day 15 rabbit retinas were transplanted into adult rabbit eyes and were allowed to survive for various times. LÄS MER
14. Underlying genetic mechanisms of hereditary dystrophies in retina and cornea
Sammanfattning : Inherited retinal and corneal dystrophies represent a group of disorders with great genetic heterogeneity. Over 250 genes are associated with retinal diseases and 16 genes are causative of corneal dystrophies. LÄS MER
15. Cognitive capacities and composite cognitive skills in individuals with Usher syndrome type 1 and 2
Sammanfattning : The present thesis belongs to the research area disability research and deal with specific aspects of cognition in individuals with Usher syndrome type 1 and 2. The subject has been investigated and is discussed within an interdisciplinary framework, though the theories applied and described are derived from the area of cognitive psychology. LÄS MER
