1. Statistical Methods for Taxon Classification and Bird Migration Phenology
Sammanfattning : The connection between ecology and statistics is deep. Methodological advancement in statistics open up new possibilities to understand the distribution of life on earth, and research questions in ecology cause new statistical methods to be developed. LÄS MER
2. Characterisation of Nonlinear Structural Dynamic Systems in Conceptual Design
Sammanfattning : The engine and driveline systems of passenger cars generates and distributes the necessary driving power and are major contributors to vehicle emissions, noise and vibrations, etc. More environmental friendly technologies under development are expected to intensify and add new comfort related problems, since most of them affect vibration sources or system damping. 3. A Multimodal Approach toward the Biological Categorization of Autism - Development of Theoretical Models, Classification Methods, and Biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an umbrella term for a group of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) which are behaviorally defined by the presence of difficulties with social communication, and behavioral rigidity and repetitiveness, including sensory disturbances. The overarching aim of this thesis was to improve the categorization of autism through the development of a theoretical framework and a multivariable classification method, and identify biomarkers which together would aid in the understanding of autism and be used in ASD classification. 4. Treatment Response in Psychotic Patients in a Naturalistic Setting : Classification, Genes, Drugs, Insight and Social Networks
Sammanfattning : Many patients with psychotic symptoms respond poorly to treatment. Various approaches have been made to classify these patients according to treatment response. However, existing classifications have been criticized for various reasons and a new classification system is needed. LÄS MER
5. Sound Classification in Hearing Instruments
Sammanfattning : A variety of algorithms intended for the new generation of hearing aids is presented in this thesis. The main contribution of this work is the hidden Markov model (HMM) approach to classifying listening environments. This method is efficient and robust and well suited for hearing aid applications.
