  1. 1. Resistin is a modulator of inflammation and autoimmunity

    Författare :Elisabeth Almer Boström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Resistin; inflammation; autoimmunity; rheumatoid arthritis; Sjögren s syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Resistin is a protein with proinflammatory properties in man and a regulator of glucose metabolism in mice. Human resistin activates the nuclear factor kappa-B dependent cytokine cascade; however, its full role in inflammation in terms of regulation, expression, and cellular source is not entirely understood. 2. 2. Intestinal transplantation. Experimental and clinical studies

    Författare :Mihai Oltean; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Intestinal preservation; Ischemia-reperfusion injury; Tight junction; FK506; Resistin;

    Sammanfattning : Intestinal preservation-reperfusion injury may result in various degrees of mucosal injury. Interestingly, the preservation injury is similar when using the current preservation solutions, which are given as a intravascular flush. An extensive mucosal injury may ultimately preclude the use of organs that require longer preservation time. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Prolactin receptor expression and prolactin-mediated effects in adipose tissue

    Författare :Charlotte Ling; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adipose tissue; prolactin receptor; SOCS; leptin; resistin; lipoprotein lipase;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of functional prolactin receptors (PRLRs) in white adipose tissue of mice and humans, and the possible functions mediated via PRLRs. In mouse white adipose tissue, three PRLR mRNA isoforms, L-, S2-, and S3-PRLR, and L-PRLR protein expression were detected. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Osteoporosis in SLE

    Författare :Katarina Almehed; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :osteoporosis; systemic lupus erythematosus; bone mineral density; health-related quality of life; SF-36; resistin; cross sectional study; vertebral fracture;

    Sammanfattning : As the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) has become more effective the focus has partly shifted from main concern of short term morbidity and survival to long term complications such as osteoporosis. The aims of this thesis were to a) determine prevalence and risk factors of osteoporosis and of b) vertebral fractures c) evaluate if adequate osteoporotic treatment was provided d) determine if resistin, an adipokine with proposed pro-inflammatory properties, was associated with markers of inflammation or bone mineral density (BMD) and to e) investigate patients self reported health related quality of life (HRQOL) and its relationship to disease variables and employment status in female SLE patients. 5. 5. On the role of HMGB1 and resistin in severe sepsis and septic shock

    Författare :Jonas Sundén-Cullberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Severe sepsis and septic shock are serious manifestations of infectious diseases. Mortality ranges from over 30 % in severe sepsis up to 60% in septic shock. Early antibiotic treatment and intensive care are mainstays of therapy, but outside of this, new treatments have only marginally improved survival. LÄS MER
