  1. 16. Groundwater resources in hard rock coastal terrains : Insights into heterogeneity and spatial variability

    Författare :Robert Earon; Bo Olofsson; Okke Batelaan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Crystalline Rock; Groundwater Balance; Kinematic porosity; Groundwater Recharge; Water Security; Coastal Aquifer; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Challenges regarding water security in hard rock coastal regions with limited soil cover are: a seasonal absence of recharge during times of peak residency, heterogeneity and variability of the fracture network, close proximity to saline water sources and spatially inconsistent storage and extraction. In areas where it is not feasible to connect residents to municipal water systems, a better understanding of the resilience of reservoirs is needed. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Here be monsters: Investigating sociotechnical interaction in safety-critical work in the maritime domain

    Författare :Linda de Vries; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pilotage; Functional Resonance Analysis Method FRAM ; e-navigation; safety; Resilience Engineering; Vessel Traffic Services VTS ; Human Factors; sociotechnical systems;

    Sammanfattning : Maritime Pilots and Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) operators work to improve the safety of navigation of seagoing vessels. As in many other safety-critical domains, work is increasingly characterised by the integration and dissemination of information between humans and technology, across disciplines and over multiple geographical locations. 3. 18. User involvement in housing recovery : Cases from Haiyan affected areas in the Philippines

    Författare :Ivette Arroyo; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; User involvement; housing recovery; Capability Approach; Capability space; evolutionary housing; Critical Realism; vulnerability; resilience; causal mechanisms; opportunities; choices; capacities; agency; typhoon Haiyan; social structures; National Housing Authority; Gawad Kalinga; We Effect; types of involvement; levels of involvement;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to develop a better understanding of the relation between housing recovery and user involvement from a capability perspective. The thesis studies housing recovery in areas affected by typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines on 8th November 2013. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Risk and Vulnerability Analysis of Interdependent Technical Infrastructures: Addressing Socio-Technical Systems

    Författare :Jonas Johansson; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Critical Infrastructures; Interdependencies; Risk analysis; Socio-Technical Systems; Vulnerability Analysis; Network Analysis; Resilience; Crisis Management; Response Systems; Technical Infrastructures;

    Sammanfattning : The society of today is highly dependent on technical infrastructures. Several incidents around the world the last decades have clearly highlighted the major effects technical infrastructure breakdowns have on life, health and economy of society. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Opportunistic Networking : Congestion, Transfer Ordering and Resilience

    Författare :Fredrik Bjurefors; Per Gunningberg; Christian Rohner; Mario Gerla; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Opportunistic Networking; Congestion; Transfer Ordering; Resilience; Testbed; WISENET; Datavetenskap med inriktning mot datorkommunikation; Computer Science with specialization in Computer Communication;

    Sammanfattning : Opportunistic networks are constructed by devices carried by people and vehicles. The devices use short range radio to communicate. Since the network is mobile and often sparse in terms of node contacts, nodes store messages in their buffers, carrying them, and forwarding them upon node encounters. LÄS MER
