  1. 21. Falls in older people in geriatric care settings : predisposing and precipitating factors

    Författare :Kristina Kallin; Leif Svanström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :accidental falls; risk factors; older people; residential facilities; geriatric care; cognition; drug therapy; wounds and injuries; geriatric psychiatry; meteorological factors; geriatrik; Geriatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Falls and their consequences are a major health problem in the older population, increasing their immobility, morbidity and mortality. This thesis focuses on older people living in geriatric care settings, frail older people who are most prone to suffer falls. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Power Outages, Increasing Block Tariffs and Billing Knowledge

    Författare :Tensay Hadush Meles; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Power outages; defensive behavior; willingness to pay; Ethiopia; generalized propensity score; Residential electricity demand; shared connections; increasing block tariff; bunching analysis; panel data; Billing knowledge; consumer behavior; non-linear electricity price; field experiment;

    Sammanfattning : Preferences for Improved Electricity Services in Developing Countries: Household’s Defensive Behavior and Willingness to Pay Access to electricity has received much attention but its reliability has been given less focus. Thus, uninterrupted power supply remains a critical challenge facing households in low-income developing countries. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Closing the Loop by Combining UASB Reactor and Reactive Bed Filetr Technology for wastewater Treatment : Modelling and Practical Approaches

    Författare :Raúl Rodríguez-Gómez; Gunno Renman; Björn Vinnerås; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bench-scale experiment; Modelling; Polonite; Sorbulite; UASB; Wastewater; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : A laboratory-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor followed by a packed bed reactor (PBR) filled with Sorbulite® in the lower part and Polonite® in the upper part was used to treat household wastewater in a 50-week experiment. A model was developed to describe the performance of the UASB reactor, including mass transfer through the film around anaerobic granules, intra-particle diffusion and bioconversion of the substrate. 4. 24. Carbonaceous Aerosol in Europe - out of the woods and into the blue?

    Författare :Jan Robert Bergström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; organic aerosol; elemental carbon; chemical transport modelling; residential wood combustion; biotic stress induced emissions; source apportionment; EMEP MSC-W model;

    Sammanfattning : Particulate matter (PM) in the atmosphere influences weather and climate and may have important health impacts. Regional scale chemical transport modelling aims to describe the composition of particulate matter, to track different sources, estimate their relative importance, and to give realistic predictions of responses to changes in emissions and atmospheric conditions.
