  1. 1. Sedimentological and Hydrological Investigation of Mosul Dam Reservoir

    Författare :Issa E Issa; Ian Foster; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage capacity curves; Area reduction method; Bathymetric survey; Losing storage capacity; Mosul dam; Reservoir bottom morphology; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; Useful life of dam; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Reservoir sedimentation is the main problem that directly affects the performance of dams due to the reduction in the storage capacity of their reservoirs. Monitoring the storage capacity of reservoirs is an important issue for the planners, designers and operators of the dams. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sediment Characteristics and Sedimentation Rate Estimation in the Dukan Reservoir

    Författare :Rebwar Hassan; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Salahalddin S. Ali; Fadhil Ahmed Ameen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage-capacity curves; Bathymetric survey; Dukan dam; Land use; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; SWAT; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The Dukan Reservoir has been created from the construction of the Dukan Dam on the Lesser Zab River where it crosses the Khalakan Thrust Sheet (Khalakan Mountains) through a gorge 65 km northwest of Sulaimani and 295 km northeast of Baghdad. The Dukan Dam is a multi-purpose dam which was built from 1954 to 1959 to control the flooding of the Lesser Zab River, and to provide irrigation, hydroelectricity, and water storage. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Siltation and sedimentation problem in Mosul reservoir dam

    Författare :Issa E. Issa; Ian Foster; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Iraq depends on the Rivers Tigris and Euphrates for its water resources. Recently the flow of these rivers decreased drastically. In view of this situation the true storage capacity of the dams are to be evaluated to ensure prudent water resources management strategies. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sedimentation and Its Challenge for Sustainability of  Hydraulic Structures : A Case Study of Mosul Dam Pumping Station

    Författare :Mohammad Ezz-Aldeen Mohammad; Sven Knutsson; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Jan Laue; Rafid Al Khaddar; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : A successful management and operation of water resources projects are essential to maintain their functions. Dams and reservoirs are one of the largest worldwide infrastructures. They serve one or more functions; reliable store and release of water for different purposes, hydropower generation and   flood and draught controls. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The origin and fate of sediment organic carbon in tropical reservoirs

    Författare :Anastasija Isidorova; Sebastian Sobek; Rafael Marcé; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methane; carbon burial; tropical reservoirs; sediment; carbon cycle; limnology; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Recently, the construction of reservoirs has boomed, particularly in the tropics, but the impact of reservoirs on the global carbon cycle is not evident. Reservoirs accumulate sediments that simultaneously bury organic carbon (OC) and thus act as a C sink, and also produce methane (CH4) and thus emit a strong greenhouse gas. LÄS MER
