1. Failure mechanisms in continuous fiber systems
Sammanfattning : .... LÄS MER
2. Determination of equivalent hydraulic and mechanical properties of fractured rock masses using the distinct element method
Sammanfattning : The equivalent continuum approach uses equivalent propertiesof rock mass as the input data for a continuum analysis. Thisis a common modeling method used in the field of rock mechanicsand hydrogeology. LÄS MER
3. Meso-Mechanical Modeling and Analysis of Adhesive Layers
Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the modeling, simulation and analysis of adhesive layers. By use of an in situ scanning electron microscopy study it is found that the adhesive studied in the present thesis has a very complex structure with two different compounds, a mineral and an epoxy/thermoplastic blend. 4. Microstructural finite element modeling of metals
Sammanfattning : The mechanical properties of metals have been investigated. This has been done by creating micromechanical models based onthe microstructural data available for the materials ofinterest. Thus, models containing a grain structure withappropriate constitutive equations have been created. LÄS MER
5. Strength and deformability of fractured rocks
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a systematic numerical modeling framework to simulate the stress-deformation and coupled stress-deformation-flow processes by performing uniaxial and biaxial compressive tests on fractured rock models with considering the effects of different loading conditions, different loading directions (anisotropy), and coupled hydro-mechanical processes for evaluating strength and deformability behavior of fractured rocks. By using code UDEC of discrete element method (DEM), a series of numerical experiments were conducted on discrete fracture network models (DFN) at an established representative elementary volume (REV), based on realistic geometrical and mechanical data of fracture systems from field mapping at Sellafield, UK.
