  1. 1. Development of sensitive cellular assay systems and their application to the identification of "orphan" seven-transmembrane receptors

    Författare :Knut Kotarsky; Slemhinnans immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; metabolism; leukotrieneB4; thiazolidinedione; 9-HODE; fatty acid; luciferase; GFP; reporter gene; preclinical assay; receptor; GPCR;

    Sammanfattning : Seven-transmembrane, G-protein coupled receptors play a central role in physiology since they facilitate cell communication in multicellular organisms by recognition of a broad range of ligands. They also represent important drug targets. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Microplastics in the marine environment and the assessment of potential adverse effects of associated chemicals

    Författare :Christine Schönlau; Anna Kärrman; Magnus Engwall; Magnus Breitholtz; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microplastics; reporter gene bioassays; sorption; HOCs; polyethylene; polypropylene; polystyrene;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decade plastics have gained interest by scientists as emerging pollutants particularly in the marine environment due to their ubiquity and persistence. While several studies report the occurrence of microplastics in surface waters globally, there are no harmonized methods to sample and measure microplastics, and the knowledge of toxicological effects in the marine ecosystem is scarce. 3. 3. STAT5 expression and regulation in mammary epithelial cells

    Författare :Hanne Olsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :STAT5; JAK2; PPAR-gamma; ER; MAPK; mammary epithelial cell differentiation;

    Sammanfattning : The mammary gland of an adult mammal undergoes cycles of proliferation and differentiation influenced by growth factors, peptide, and steroid hormones, e.g. epidermal growth factor (EGF), prolactin (PRL) and estrogen (E). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Toxicity pathways in zebrafish cell lines : an ecotoxicological perspective on ”toxicity testing in the 21st century”

    Författare :Sebastian Lungu Mitea; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Standard toxicological in vivo testing has been challenged as the procedures are time-consuming, expensive, and require a large number of animals; given the number of problematic chemicals. Novel toxicological frameworks, such as "toxicity testing in the 21st century", proposed the use of "new approach methods" (in vitro and in silico techniques), that can be applied in high-throughput setups and would allow for the testing of a large number of compounds. 5. 5. In vivo properties of neural stem cells after transplantation into the rat brain-Studies of phenotypic differentiation and functional integration using cell-specific labelling and electrophysiological techniques

    Författare :Ulrica Englund Johansson; Peter Eriksson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cell line; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; functional integration; electrophysiology; retrograde tracing; immortalized; GFP; migration; axonal projections; glia; neuron; transplantation; stem cell. progenitor cell; CNS; Biomedical Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, we have examined the in vivo properties of in vitro expanded human and rat neural stem-and progenitor cells after transplantation into the neonatal and adult rat brain. The survival and differentiation of the grafted cells were assessed using species-specific antisera, and pre-labelling with the reporter gene green fluorescent protein (GFP). LÄS MER
