  1. 16. RAP1 at the Yeast Telomere

    Författare :Johan Wahlin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytogenetik; DNA-binding; Saccharomyces; yeast; telomeric repeat; telomere; RAP1; repressor activator protein 1; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Telomeres are specialized complexes of DNA and proteins that cap and confer stability to the ends of eukaryotic chromosomes. The telomeric DNA of most eukaryotes is composed of tandemly arranged short repeats. Within the budding yeasts these repeats are diverged in length as well as in nucleotide composition. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Molecular characterization and evolution of alpha-actinin : from protozoa to vertebrates

    Författare :Ana Virel; Lars Backman; Kristina Djinovic-Carugo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alpha-actinin; evolution; spectrin repeat; intragene duplication; phylogenetic tree; spectrin superfamily; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : alpha-actinin is a ubiquitous protein found in most eukaryotic organisms. The ability to form dimers allows alpha-actinin to cross-link actin in different structures. In muscle cells alpha-actinin is found at the Z-disk of sarcomeres. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Expression and functional analysis of the SCA7 disease protein ataxin-7

    Författare :Anna-Lena Ström; Monica Holmberg; Patrik Brundin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Polyglutamine disease; CAG repeat; Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Spinocerebellar ataxia type 7 (SCA7) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by cerebellar ataxia and visual problems due to a progressive and selective loss of neurons within the cerebellum, brainstem and retina. The disease is caused by the expansion of a CAG repeat in the first coding exon of the SCA7 gene, resulting in an expanded polyglutamine domain in the N-terminal part of ataxin-7, a protein of unknown function. 4. 19. Urban women applying for induced abortion. Studies of epidemiology, attitudes and emotional reactions

    Författare :Hanna Söderberg; gynekologisk och prenatal ultraljudsdiagnostik Obstetrisk; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrik; reproduction; sexuality; andrology; Obstetrics; gynaecology; Induced abortion; risk areas; continued pregnancy; socio-demographic differences; reasons for abortion; interview study; selection bias; emotional distress; repeat abortion; ethnic problems; use of an compliance with contraceptives; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden between 32-38,000 women annually elect to terminate pregnancy by means of induced abortion, though their reasons are still not well understood. The purpose of these studies, carried out at the Department of Obstetrics and gynecology and of Community Medicine at University Hospital, Malmö, was to elucidate the incidence of induced abortion in an urban population, with special emphasis on epidemiological and socio-demographic factors, the women's attitude to abortion, and the incidence and severity of post-abortion emotional reactions. 5. 20. Diversity of Legacy : The Experience of Immigrants and their Descendants in Sweden

    Författare :Siddartha Aradhya; Centrum för ekonomisk demografi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Immigrant integration; Second generation immigrants; Birthweight; Education; School grades; Gender; Sweden; Residential choice; Third generation immigrants; Intergenerational processes; repeat migration;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines the integration of immigrants from an intergenerational and multidimensional perspective. During the post-World War Two period, Sweden has been characterized by a large and increasing degree of heterogeneity in terms of immigrant background and reason for migration. LÄS MER
