1. Long-term outcome of renal transplantation in childhood
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the long-term results of renal transplantation in children at Huddinge University Hospital, with special reference to outcome. We therefore evaluated the course of events in children (age 0.1-16 years) transplanted between December 1981 and December 1991 during a 10-20-year period until 2001. LÄS MER
2. Renal denervation in patients with resistant hypertension
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND Catheter-based renal denervation (RDN) is a potential modality in the treatment of patients with resistant hypertension (RH). The biological effects of RDN are not fully comprehended and studies examining its impact on blood pressure (BP) and other cardiovascular surrogate markers have generated conflicting results. LÄS MER
3. Insulin resistance and cardiovascular function - Observational, translational and interventional studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Microvascular disease is now recognized as an important driver for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Diabetic patients are known to suffer from this condition, leading to e.g. coronary ischemia as well as kidney dysfunction. LÄS MER
4. Myocardial Effects of Type 2 Diabetes, Co-morbidities, and Changing Loading Conditions : a Clinical Study by Tissue Velocity Echocardiography
Sammanfattning : Ever since the validation of the tissue velocity echocardiography (TVE) technique more than a decade ago the modality has been used rather successfully in various clinical situations, at rest as well as during stress echocardiography. Hitherto, dobutamine stress echocardiography has been the hallmark of all forms of stress procedures, now with TVE, quantification of the longitudinal motions of the left ventricle shows far superiority, with improved sensitivity and specificity in the functional diagnosis of coronary artery disease. 5. Cardiac abnormalities in chronic kidney disease
Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem associated with increased risk of mortality and development of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality even before the development of ESRD. LÄS MER
