  1. 1. Renal Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Inga Soveri; Bengt Fellström; Lars Lind; Ola Samuelsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Internal medicine; renal dysfunktion; cardiovascular disease; risk factor; mortality; endothelial dysfunction; arterial stiffness; oxidative stress; inflammation; renal transplantation; haemodialysis; general population; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Kidney dysfunction increases cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The mechanisms for the risk increase seem to involve a combination of traditional and non-traditional CVD risk factors.We studied renal dysfunction as CVD and mortality risk factor in middle-aged men free from diabetes and CVD. 2. 2. Haemodialysis Treatment Monitored On-line by Ultra Violet Absorbance

    Författare :Fredrik Uhlin; Lars-Göran Lindberg; Martin Magnusson; Bernd Stegmayr; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dialysis; Hemodialysis; Proteins; Metabolism; Renal dialysis; Ultraviolet spectrophotometry; Urea; Uremia; Kidney diseases; Njursjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes and evaluates an optical method utilizing ultra violet (UV) absorbance for on-line monitoring of haemodialysis treatment. Increased efficiency of haemodialysis treatment is considered to correlate to decreased morbidity and mortality when urea clearance (Kt/V) is elevated. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Hyperparathyroidism and parathyroidectomy in patients on renal replacement therapy

    Författare :Kerstin Ivarsson; Njurmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Secondary hyperparathyroidism; End-stage renal disease; Parathyroidectomy; New-onset diabetes after transplantation; Maintenance dialysis; Renal transplantation; Survival; Cardiovascular event; Hip fracture;

    Sammanfattning : Background. Secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT) is characterized by over function of the parathyroid glands and disturbances in mineral metabolism as a result of renal failure. It is common among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and it often persists after successful renal transplantation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Impact of renal dysfunction on serum Prostate-Specific Antigen

    Författare :Laila Bruun; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urologi; hK2; Urology; intra-individual variation; elimination; peritoneal dialysis; renal dysfunction; kidney transplantation; hemodialysis; nefrologi; nephrology; PSA;

    Sammanfattning : Measurement of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in blood is an important tool in detection for prostate cancer. PSA occurs in several molecular forms in blood: mainly as a free form with a molecular mass of 28 kDa; and as PSA complexed to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, complexed PSA, with a molecular mass of 90 kDa. 5. 5. Sleep Problems in Patients on Peritoneal Dialysis : Prevalence, Effects on Daily Life and Evaluation of Non-Pharmacological Interventions

    Författare :Pia Yngman-Uhlin; Ulla Edéll-Gustafsson; Anders Fernström; Sussanne Börjeson; Olof Heimbürger; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Fatigue; insomnia; peritoneal dialysis; renal supportive care; sleep; self-care management; sleep hygiene; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Sleep problems affect a considerable number (49-86%) of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) treatment. Insomnia i.e. difficulties to initiate and/or maintain sleep or too early wakening, combined with daytime symptoms, seems to be the dominating problem. LÄS MER
