  1. 11. Interactions between Eurasian lynx and wolverines in the reindeer husbandry area

    Författare :Jenny Mattisson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In conservation and management, carnivore species are often treated as isolated units, even though interspecific interactions can have important implications for the behaviour, demography and distribution of the species involved. In this thesis I used individual based GPS-location data to study interactions between two solitary predators in the reindeer husbandry area in Northern Scandinavia: The Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), an obligate predator, and the wolverine (Gulo gulo), an opportunistic predator and scavenger. 2. 12. Predator management : space use and monitoring of Lynx in the reindeer husbandry area

    Författare :Anna Danell; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Successful legislation during the 20th century has led to recovering populations of large carnivores in Europe and we are now facing the challenges of managing the populations to fulfil both national and international conservation goals as well as minimizing the conflicts resulting from depredation on domestic animals on a national level. I investigated the space use by Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in relation to their migrating main prey, the semi-domesticated reindeer (Rangifer t. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Towards adaptive management of reindeer grazing resources

    Författare :Anna Olofsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to create a scientifically founded proposal for improvement of optimal and sustainable use of reindeer pasture resources by an adaptive management approach. Hence, the adaptive management concept is reviewed and discussed with specific reference to reindeer husbandry. LÄS MER

  4. 14. A toolbox for co-production of knowledge and improved land use dialogues : the perspective of reindeer husbandry

    Sammanfattning : In northern Sweden, forestry, wind and hydropower, mining, infrastructure development and associated influence zones together constitute a complicated, land use situation that strongly impacts reindeer husbandry, a unique and extensive land use system. This situation has led to challenges for land managers and decision makers. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Managing mountains, past and present conditions for traditional summer farming and Sami reindeer husbandry in northern Scandinavia

    Sammanfattning : Traditional land use and conditions for maintenance of biodiversity are often interlinked. When land use changes and ecosystems change as a result, there is a risk to loose both the traditional ecological knowledge and the biodiversity connected to this land use. LÄS MER
