11. Dis-placed Desires : Space and Sexuality in South African Literature
Sammanfattning : This study provides a diachronic view of the interweaving of space and sexuality, their interdependency and mutually constitutive aspects, in seven South African English language novels from the early twentieth century until the first decade of the twenty-first century. A key contention is that it is precisely a co-constitutive depiction of space and sexuality that has arisen in this literature as a response to a socio-political climate which has exercised harsh regulation in these two areas. 12. Glucose-lowering interventions and risk assessment in patients with coronary heart disease and disturbed glucose metabolism
Sammanfattning : Background: Abnormal glucose regulation (AGR) including impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) are common in patients with stable and unstable coronary artery disease (CAD) and impair their prognosis. Available glucose lowering interventions have not fully succeeded in improving the detrimental prognosis and accurate screening methods and new treatment strategies are needed. LÄS MER
13. Angiogenetic and hereditary factors in endometrial disease
Sammanfattning : The endometrium is a unique tissue in the adult human body because it is the only site where physiological renewal of vessels, angiogenesis, occurs. The regulation of this process under normal conditions is not fully understood. LÄS MER
14. Lifestyle and glycaemic control before and after the onset of type 2 diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex disease with widespread physiological insults to the regulation of metabolic homeostasis, above all glycaemic regulation. The pathogenesis of T2D and its progression is broadly understood to be through a gradual decrease in peripheral insulin sensitivity, a compensatory rise in insulin secretion, and a gradual decline in beta-cell function, resulting in glycaemic dysregulation and eventual T2D. 15. Every coin has two sides : the challenge of addressing inappropriate prescribing in older patients in primary care
Sammanfattning : Background: Drug-related morbidity contributes to every tenth unplanned hospital admission in older patients. A way to address this problem is to identify and minimize potentially inappropriate prescribing (PIP). LÄS MER
