  1. 1. Towards a detailed understanding of the red blood cell storage lesion : and its consequences for in vivo survival following transfusion

    Författare :Andreas Hult; Christer Malm; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Martin L. Olsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Red blood cell; erythrocyte; transfusion; macrophage; phagocytosis; storage lesion; eryptosis; Class A scavenger receptor; transfusion medicine; transfusionsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Red blood cells (RBCs) are vital for oxygen delivery to tissues and constitute the vast majority of all cells in blood. After leaving the red bone marrow as mature cells, RBCs have a lifespan of approximately 120 days before they are removed from the circulation by macrophages, mainly in the spleen and liver. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Affinity-, Partition- and Permeability Properties of the Human Red Blood Cell Membrane and Biomembrane Models, with Emphasis on the GLUT1 Glucose Transporter

    Sammanfattning : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. 3. 3. Elucidating Genetic and Biochemical Aspects of the P1 and Sda Carbohydrate Histo-Blood Group Antigens

    Författare :Linn Stenfelt; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood Group; P1 antigen; Sda antigen; A4GALT; B3GALNT2; glycosyltransferase; red blood cell; transfusion medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Human histo-blood groups are inherited polymorphic variants that occur in the molecular structures on the humanred blood cell (RBC) surface. Introducing foreign RBCs into a recipient lacking an antigen may activate the humoraldefence leading to a hemolytic transfusion reaction. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Role of the CD47/SIRPα-interaction in regulation of macrophage phagocytosis

    Författare :Mattias Olsson; Per-Arne Oldenborg; Hans Tapper; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; immunology; cell biology; Histology; Histologi;

    Sammanfattning : CD47 is a cell surface glycoprotein that is expressed by virtually all cells in the body. Binding of CD47 to the macrophage receptor Signal Regulatory Protein alpha (SIRPα) yields an inhibitory signal that counteracts phagocytosis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Chromatographic Studies of Solute Interactions with Immobilized Red Blood Cells and Biomembranes

    Författare :Ingo Gottschalk; Irving W. Wainer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Affinity; Binding; Biomembrane; Biotin; Chromatography; Cytochalasin B; Dissociation constant; Drug absorption; Equilibrium; Glucose; GLUT1; Immobilization; Immobilized biomembrane affinity chromatography; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Interaction; Liposome; Membrane protein; Membrane vesicle; Partitioning; Phospholipid bilayer; Proteoliposome; Quantitative; Red blood cell; Solute; Specific; Streptavidin; Wheat germ agglutinin; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Specific and non-specific interactions of solutes with immobilized biomembranes were studied using chromatographic methods. Liposomes, proteoliposomes and red blood cell (RBC) membrane vesicles were immobilized by a freeze-thawing procedure, whereas whole RBCs were adsorbed in the gel beds using electrostatic interaction, binding to wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) or the streptavidin-biotin interaction.
