  1. 11. Intestinal effects of lung recruitment maneuvers

    Författare :Jonas Claesson; Ola Winsö; Stefan Lehtipalo; Conny Arnerlöv; Björn Biber; Göran Hedenstierna; Petter Aadahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute lung injury; oleic acid lung injury; ischemia; reperfusion injury; swine; mechanical ventilation; lung recruitment; splanchnic circulation; laser Doppler flowmetry; tissue oxygen tension; microdialysis; lactate; glycerol; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Lung recruitment maneuvers (brief episodes of high airway pressure) are a modern treatment alternative to achieve open lung conditions under mechanical ventilation of patients with acute lung injury. It is well known that positive pressure ventilation with high airway pressures cause negative circulatory effects, and that the effects on regional vascular beds can be even more pronounced than the systemic effects. 2. 12. Mechanisms triggering the recruitment of mast cell progenitors to the lung and regulation of mast cell degranulation

    Författare :Behdad Zarnegar; Jenny Hallgren; Madeleine Rådinger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mast cells; Mast cell progenitors; Recruitment; Lung; Virus; Influenza; Innate immunity; Poly I:C; IL-33; VAAT; SLC10A4; Degranulation;

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells stem from the bone marrow and migrate via the blood as mast cell progenitors. Upon arrival in peripheral tissues, they develop into mast cells. These rare immune cells have numerous granules that contain large amounts of pro-inflammatory mediators. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Monitoring alveolar recruitment in the critically ill - Patient studies using electric impedance tomography and volume-dependent compliance

    Författare :Karin Lowhagen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ALI; ARDS; compliance; end-expiratory lung volume; EELV; EIT; electric impedance tomography; lung recruitment; morbid obesity; PEEP; recruitment manoeuvre; regional ventilation; volume-dependent compliance;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are associated with a high mortality rate and poor long term outcome in terms of quality of life, for those who survive. Similarly, patients with morbid obesity are at risk for respiratory complications when subjected to anaesthesia and surgery. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Statebuilding through diaspora recruitment? : The role of capacity, norms and representation for legitimacy in Somaliland and Liberia

    Författare :Anna Ida R. Rock; Anna Jarstad; Johanna Söderström; Maria Eriksson Baaz; Isabell Schierenbeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Statebuilding; Peacebuilding; Liberia; Somaliland; Diaspora; Legitimacy; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : How do the local elites and the wider population perceive returnees in post-war governments and what shapes these returnees’ legitimacy? Overall, while acknowledging some benefits, local elites in Somaliland and Liberia highlight challenges connected to returnees’ presence in governments and question their legitimacy. These challenges are mirrored in the perceptions of the Liberian population, who see returnees as less legitimate in government positions than stayees. LÄS MER
