1. Anticoagulant protein C--structural and functional studies
Sammanfattning : Anticoagulant protein C is a vitamin K-dependent factor circulating in plasma as a zymogen of a serine protease. It is converted to its active form (APC) by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex on the surface of endothelial cells. APC inhibits the generation of thrombin by selective proteolytic inactivation procoagulant factors Va and VIIIa. LÄS MER
2. The EGF-like Modules of Anticoagulant Protein S. Studies of Ca2+ binding and module interactions
Sammanfattning : Protein S functions as a cofactor to activated protein C (APC) in the degradation of factors Va and VIIIa. In plasma protein S circulates in two forms; 30-40 % circulates as free protein S molecules while the remaining 60-70 % exists in a 1:1 complex with C4b-binding protein (C4BP). Only the free form of protein S functions as a cofactor to APC. LÄS MER
3. Structure-function relationships of hormone-sensitive lipase
Sammanfattning : The primary role of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), an 84 kDa enzyme of 768 amino acids (in the rat protein), is to hydrolyse stored triacylglycerols in adipocytes of white adipose tissue. Catecholamines and insulin regulate lipolysis through cellular signalling. LÄS MER
4. Human Glandular Kallikrein 2
Sammanfattning : Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) is a serine protease, which is predominantly expressed by the prostate gland and found in seminal plasma at mean levels of 6 mg/ml. It has 79% amino acid sequence identity with prostate-specific antigen (PSA or hK3). LÄS MER
5. Controlling Chemistry and Membrane Proteome Composition in Nanotube-Vesicle Networks
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a combination of experimental and theoretical techniques to elucidate the dynamics of chemical reactions in confined biological systems and bridges the gap between biomimetic and biological systems by using cell membranes as simplified biomimetic devices. These are in turn used and analyzed to draw conclusions about the cellular membrane makeup. LÄS MER
