  1. 1. Bed filters for phosphorus removal in on-site wastewater treatment : Removal mechanisms and sustainability

    Författare :David Eveborn; Jon Petter Gustafsson; Gunno Renman; Erik Kärrman; Lars Lövgren; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; On-site wastewater treatment; Eutrophication; Environmental impact assessment; Phosphorus removal mechanisms; Soil infiltration; Reactive bed filters; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik; Soil chemistry; Markkemi;

    Sammanfattning : For many surface waters, phosphorus (P) leaching is a serious problem that should be minimized to prevent eutrophication. In Sweden there is a demand for physical and technical development of high-performance P removal techniques to reduce phosphorus leaching from on-site wastewater treatment systems to the Baltic Sea. 2. 2. Engineered Wetlands and Reactive Bed Filters for Treatment of Landfill Leachate

    Författare :Agnieszka Kietliñska; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Blast furnace slag; Compact constructed wetland; Metals; Nitrogen; Polonite; Sorbents;

    Sammanfattning : The main objectives of this study were to investigate (i) anovel wetland treatment technology and (ii) selected bed filtermedia for the removal of contaminants from landfill leachate. Areview of the literature concerning experiences of the use ofconstructed wetlands (CW) for the removal of nitrogen fromlandfill leachate, showed that at least three groups oftreatment systems are in practice: sub-surface flow wetlands,hybrid systems (a combination of vertical and horizontal flowwetlands) and, compact constructed wetland (CCW). 3. 3. Phosphorus transport and reduction in compact-bed filters : simulations and experiments

    Författare :Amir Jourak; Andy George; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Excessive release of phosphorus from the effluent of on-site sanitation facilities to the environment is one source of aquatic pollution. The primary effect of excess phosphorus in the aquatic environment is eutrophication. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fortification of soil-based wastewater treatment systems with versatile ubiquitous reactive media for enhanced removal of phosphorus and other pollutants

    Författare :Ezekiel Kholoma; Gunno Renman; Agnieszka Renman; Haniso Motlhabane; Mark Healy; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biochar; Fortified filter; Gas concrete; Phosphorus removal; Reactive filter media; Wastewater treatment; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Concerns about potential risks posed by discharge from small-scale wastewater treatment (SWT) systems to receiving water bodies have prompted robust enforcement of national discharge quality standards in rural areas of most developed countries. Consequently, communities in such places are in need of effective technologies with which to achieve compliance. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On-site wastewater treatment : Polonite and other filter materials for removal of metals, nitrogen and phosphorus

    Författare :Agnieszka Renman; Per-Erik Jansson; Lars D. Hylander; Gunno Renman; Björn Klöve; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; alkaline materials; heavy metals; mechanisms; nutrient removal; sorption; speciation modelling; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Bed filters using reactive materials are an emerging technology for on-site wastewater treatment. Chemical reactions transfer contaminants from the aqueous to the solid phase. Phosphorus is removed from domestic wastewater by sorption to filter materials, which can then be recycled to agriculture as fertilisers and soil amendments. LÄS MER
