1. Early assessment of efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors. Non-clinical pharmacodynamic studies in vitro and in vivo
Sammanfattning : The drawbacks of today's anticoagulants are parenteral use (heparins), a narrow interval between efficacy and bleeding, and the high variability of effect with a consequent need for frequent monitoring (coumarins). The aim of the current studies was to evaluate properties important for efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants, as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors, with non-clinical methods. LÄS MER
2. Atmospheric corrosion and runoff processes on copper and zinc as roofing materials
Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation with parallel field andlaboratory exposures has been conducted to elucidateatmospheric corrosion and metal runoff processes on copper andzinc used for roofing applications. Detailed studies have beenperformed to disclose the effect of various parameters on therunoff rate including: surface inclination and orientation, natural patination (age), patina composition, rain duration andvolume, rain pH, and length of dry periods inbetween rainevents. 3. Molecular Recognition in Antibody Engineering. Studies on recombinant and phage displayed antibodies
Sammanfattning : In vitro generation of antibody fragments of desired specificity and affinity plays an important role since it permits the generation of reagents which may be valuable for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Furthermore, the kinetic parameters for an antibody-antigen interaction, rather than the affinity, has shown to correlate with biological functions like virus neutralization. LÄS MER
4. Photoplethysmographic heart and respiratory rate monitoring : instrument design and evaluation
Sammanfattning : A new optical heart and respiratory rate monitor utilising the photoplethysmographic (PPG) signal is presented. The PPG method, first developed in the 1930s, is based on the fact that incident light to the skin surface is absorbed, scattered and reflected in tissue and blood. 5. Acoustical Measurements of Material Nonlinearity and Nonequilibrium Recovery
Sammanfattning : A damaged material or a material with non perfect atomic geometry, dislocations or cracks, exhibits two types of characteristic responses to acoustic excitations. First is the fast nonlinear dynamics response that is present as long as the material is excited. As soon as the excitation stops the response disappear. LÄS MER
