11. Drivers of carbon sink function in tropical seagrass beds : influence of carbon import, plant composition, seascape configuration and human activities
Sammanfattning : Seagrass meadows are effective carbon sinks, sequestering atmospheric CO2 and capturing allochthonous organic material, storing organic carbon (Corg) in their sediments, so called Blue Carbon. In tropical areas, seagrass meadows have a high number of calcareous organisms, which can offset carbon sequestration by releasing CO2 through their calcification. LÄS MER
12. Improved components for 2SB THz receivers with enhanced sideband rejection performance
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents work done in improving the sideband rejection ratio for 2SB cryogenic radio astronomy receivers in general, but more specifically, for the future Onsala 20 m 3-mm receiver system and the ALMA Band 5. In order to attain better than 15 dB sideband rejection ratio over the entire bandwidth (approximately 26% RF fractional bandwidth and one octave the IF bandwidth), it is necessary to improve both RF and IF hybrid assembly to optimum performance, i. 13. Towards Ultimate Performance of THz Heterodyne Receivers: SIS Frequency Multiplier and Wideband Passive Components
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the development of advanced components for the future wideband side band separating and / or multipixel receivers for radio-astronomy with ultimate sensitivity. In this thesis, a novel frequency multiplier based on distributed superconducting tunnel (SIS) junctions has been demonstrated for the first time, taking advantage of the extreme inherent nonlinearity of such device. 14. Malnutrition in patients with chronic renal failure
Sammanfattning : Protein-energy malnutrition is common in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and may contribute to a poor clinical outcome. However, the role of nutrition in this regard has not been clearly defined. LÄS MER
15. CARDIOTHORACIC TRAUMA: A Scandinavian Perspective
Sammanfattning : Background: Trauma in general is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and causes more loss of productive years than ischemic heart disease and malignancy together. Cardiothoracic trauma occurs in 60% of multitrauma patients and is 2-3 times more common than intra-abdominal visceral injuries. LÄS MER
